Does the 3rd brake light work.if it does then the brake switch works as it is tied into the brake system.if not then you will have to check the brake light switch for power on both sides of the brake switch located near the firewall under the dash on the brake pedal.there will be a 2 wire switch.on one wire it should have voltage and on the other it should only have power when the brake pedal is pushed.if not then you have bad brake switch.if the 3rd brake light works then you will have to check the wiring from the brake switch back to the rear lights.another thing is does the signals work at the back if they do then the signal switch is eliminated as a problem.

Replace brake light switch, it's mounted just above brake pedal under dash. Small switch w/couple of wires coming from it - easy fix. (common prob)

SOURCE: Rear tail / brake lights

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Almost always, your described concern indicates a loose ground particularly on the driver side. What is required is to check the connectors leading to the driver rear side and/or a ground wire. Often, the problem would be the ground terminal is loose or corroded leading to the body of the vehicle. A temporary workaround is to determine which is the ground in the bulb socket (always the body) and wire a jumper wire to any exposed metal part of the rear end.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: Neither turn signal nor the emergency flashers work. Fuses ok

sounds like the flasher relay has failed. This is usually situated underneath the top of the steering column which is accessed by undoing a couple of screws. Many flasher relays are box shaped and have 3 flat pins that plug into a socket. Basically it's a switch and it's very common for them to fail as they are used daily and will eventually fail. A temporary solution until you manage to locate a new one (which shouldn't be difficult) is to whack the top of the steering wheel shroud likely the surrounding area of where the emergency flasher switch is

Ok thx my this question is about my f150 91 ford truck park lights don't work. Like the break lights work fine but lights don't come on at night and also my ashtray plug in isn't working and the dash

Have you checked all our fuses with a test light? Most of the time running lights and your cigarette Lighter are on the same fuse that would result in break lights working and running lights not. Check all fuses first. It will most likely be labeled as cigarette lighter or 12v acc or could be drl or just as tail lights

The left tail break light & turn signal will not work -all other are OK ?

Since that is two different circuits, I would look at the wiring at the light socket. It could be a ground problem too.
You may have to trace the harness back to the front of the rig.

Tail light doesnt turn on with headlights but works fine as a break light and turn signal, why?

in the rear lights you may have two bulbs one is the turn signal the other one is stop light / tail light the stop light / tail light has two filaments, one for the stop light (21 watt) & one for the tail light (5 watt) it is possible that the tail light filament is blown, try replacing the bulb to see if that fixes the problem, also check all the fuses as well.......hope this helps......cheers.

Tail break lights don't work. Window break light does work however. Bulbs have been replaced.

Check the brake light fuse. The high mounted brake light (third brake light) is on a different circuit than the brake lights. Hope this helps.
