Question about 1996 Nissan Pickup

1 Answer

I have a 1996 Nissan 4X4 pickup. Sometimes it will not start. I had the battery checked and it is good, so I replaced the starter even though it was also good. It is a manual transmission and if I can get it rolling, it starts up. If it hit the battery post a few time it cranks. What could be the problem? Thanks!

Bad cables. Replace battery cables and have battery "load tested" at any good parts store.

1996 4x4 4cyl wont crank starter batt good no volts to s term on starter

You may want to check your ignition switch? If your ignition switch is bad then it will not allow electrical power to your starter. I hope this helps.

How do i replace the starter on a 1996 nissan pickup?

you hav to do it from underneath.put on jack stands remove battery cables from battTry to remove electrical wires from starter.Get a peice of paper and write down or draw a diagram of the location of wires.Get a ratchet and 12 inch extension witg a 23 mm socket.the lower bolt comes out fairly easy. The top bolt takes a little finessing,go to it up over the top of starter, if you cant get the socket on the bolt good replace the socket with 13mm swivel socket.Replace using same procedure the last thing hooking the batt back up {very important] Good luck.

How do I remove/install a starter on 1996 nissan

this is pretty cut and dry, remove neg battery terminal, raise vehicle if needed, remove the wiring from the back of starter, then remove the two starter mounting bolts and pull starter out, to install reverse directions, good luck.

I've had the exact same problem, it is most likely the starter. Just to be sure I'll tell you what mine did (same model and year) started to act like the battery was going bad, then sometimes would start just fine. But progressively got worse, turning over slower than before until finally it would just click. After pulling the starter I found that the bushing on the armature was missing, this was a 9 month old starter. Replaced with another new and it works just fine.
