put back old ecm and try spare key. if it does not work and you use a new ecm you need to program your keys to the immobilizer for it to work

Is a 94 esm the only year i can use in my 94 cavalier

if you mean ecm(computer) there is a number on a tag on the ecm that will have to match and then there is a chip that will have to be transferred from the original ecm to the ecm your installling in your car.have you had the car put on a scan tool as if the ecm is bad it should have set a code for the ecm,if you have spark and fuel you should be at least getting an indication the car is trying to start, short start up,back fire through intake or exhaust.you could have a timing problem or even a problem with the ignition module not working properly, this needs to be properly checked out before throwing parts at it.

94 wagon check engine light on i have the code tool but cant pull code out could it be a short or the ecm bad i smelld something burring like wires looked in engine capartment touch almost ever wire...

anything is possible, but ford ECMs are known for there lack of failure. they almost never go bad. in 12 years as a performance and diagnostic specialist I've replaced scores of GM ECMs, 4 or 5 chryslers, two toyotas, and one ford ECM. I replaced it at my manager's insistence, and it did not fix the problem. had any mechanical work done lately? valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets, or the like? maybe a ground wire was not put back on tight enough or in the right spot?

Where is the location of the ECM on a 1998 ford explorer?

ECM (Engine Control Module) is the old name to the new PCM
(Powertrain Control Module) denomination; this unit performs many functions on your car. The module accepts information from various engine sensors and computes the required fuel flow rate necessary to maintain the correct amount of air/fuel ratio throughout the entire engine operational range.

Based on the information that is received and programmed into the PCM's memory, the PCM generates output signals to control relays, actuators and solenoids.

The module is mounted under the hood on the firewall. On 493-94 models, it is mounted low on the firewall, near the left-hand fender (drivers side). On 495-99 models, it is mounted high on the firewall offset to the right-hand side of center.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disengage the wiring harness connector from the PCM by loosening the connector retaining bolt, then pulling the connector from the module.
  3. Remove the two nuts and the PCM cover.
  4. Remove the PCM from the bracket by pulling the unit outward.
To install:
  1. Install the PCM in the mounting bracket.
  2. Install the PCM cover and tighten the two nuts.
  3. Attach the wiring harness connector to the module, then tighten the connector retaining bolt.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.

Hope helps (remember comment and rated this).

Yes, that would be fine, make sure you solder the wires and tape well or use shrink tube on the connections.

Just change the ecm on my 2001 ford Windstar and it won't start the anti theft light is blinking

did you get the ecm flash programmed? newer vehicles require the ecm to be flash programmed before they are installed your dealer and some auto parts stores can do this for you it usually runs around $90.
