Question about 2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE

1 Answer

I have a 2001 pontiac Grand Am SE and it is leaking transmission fluid, but when I went to check the fluid I couldn't find the dip stick for the trans fluid. The only thing I found was a cap that says TRANS way down on the right hand side of the engine. Is there a dip stick for the trans? How do I check the fluid level in the trans?

Car starts and when you give it gas it wont go any where and the rpm hand goes up and still dont move

This sounds like transmission problems, some of these models do not have a transmission dip stick to check the transmission fluid level.
The first step is to see if this car has a dip stick to check the transmission fluid level. Low fluid will cause this problem also or if there is a leak and fluid leaks low after time until it gets to low and transmission wont move.
if this model does not have a dip stick for the transmission then you will need to take it to a tranny or repair shop and have them check it.

If you have a dip stick and the fluid is full then you may have internal transmission problems and again will need a shop to check it out. Make sure if the fluid is low and you are adding you will need to make sure you are using the correct fluid or damage will occur , the type is written on the stick, look closely and you will see the writing ,

I have a 2001 pontiac grand prix and it was running great. we drove it about 200 miles in one day and it never gave us a minutes trouble. that night we were coming home and came to a red light and had to...

Sounds like the transmission fluid needs to be checked. Either low with a leak, or too much and fluid foaming up. Follow instructions on dip stick.

Could be a sticking switch on the brake pedal arm, up under the dash. On most cars, stepping on the brake signals the computer to unlock the torque converter in the transmission.

Hope this helps.

Cant find in manual. Where to ck the transmission fluid

Have the car running and in park to allow the fluid to warm up. A picture is attached to show the location of the dip stick. This is also where you will add fluid if needed.

Where do you add or check Pontiac Grand Am transmission fluid

THERE SHOULD BE A DIP STICK LOCATED UNDER THE HOOD CLEARLY MARKED TRANSMISSION. TO CHECK YOU NEED THE CAR RUNNING IN PARK OR NEUTRAL AND AT OPERATING TEMPERATURE WICH SHOULD BE AROUND 195 DEGREES. IF THE FLUID IS IN THE ADD CROSS SECTION THEN ADD ACCORDINGLY THE FLUID GOES IN THROUGH THE DIP STICK TUBE SO YOU WILL NEED A FUNNEL! GOOD LUCK

How do I check tranny fluid on 2001 grand am se 2.4 whith auto tranny

Find the dip stick that leads to the transmission. Your car must be started to check the level. There usually is a cold and hot safe area. If you just started it use the cold. If you are checking it after you have driven it for a few miles and then engine is warm check it on the hot area.

There's no dip stick on my transmission for my pontiac grand am gt, there's only a fill cap on the transmission. How much fluid should be put in to top it up

you have to go under the car and there is a bolt in the bottom of the tra 3 or 4 inches up the side you have to unscrew this bolt and then have someone pour in the trans fluid until it starts to trickle out.

2001 Grand Am GT Tranmission Fliud Check

Hello Ryan Motes, my name is JShreader. Thank You for choosing fixya.com

As the expert stated...This is a "Cased" Transmission. So you don't have a conventional "Dip-Stick". Instead, the Fluid is checked on the side of the Transmission via the Fluid Level Screw as shown on the picture below...The fluid level screw is intended to be used for diagnosing a transaxlefluid leak or resetting the transaxle fluid level after service thatinvolves a loss of fluid.

I made you up the procedure (in .pdf format) for checking the Fluid Level on this particular Transmission. You can download it by clicking HERE. I hope this helps you. If you have any more questions or need any more diagrams, please don't hesitate to ask...Thanks again, JShreader.
