2000 vw beetle crankes up reeves up nice let off gas dies immediatlly. 1.8 liter turbo

Try disconnecting your MAF sensor and then start the car...If it keeps running, then your MAF is bad and needs to be replaced. By unplugging the MAF the engine's computer will default to a preset value and keep the engine running. Also check this next one I found on the internet....go to Google and type in your problem and vehicle'll fins alot of info. Good luck !This problem haunted my beetle forever. Everyone and his brother had a recommendation. I changed the fuel pump, filters, fuel pressure regulator, the MAF sensor, engine speed sensor, replaced the factory airbox with a K&N, kept stalling. Turns out the problem was something that not a single mechanic thought of, and that no diagnostic tool hooked up to your computer would find: sludge in the gas tank. Over time, the lining in the gas tank wears, creating a sludge. This is usually not a problem until you run below a certain level. For me, this is when the gas gauge goes below half. The solution would be to have the entire fuel system cleaned, which I did, but you have to get the tank pumped and cleaned too. Otherwise, the sludge remains. The temporary fix is to never let it go below half. I hope that helps!

What are signs that a computer has gone out on a 2000 VW beetle?

most obvious sign is the immobilisor as its all programmed as one unit ,never heard of any mechanical faults with these vehicles though as the ECU is always bosch or siemans and they never go wrong

The timing needs to be adjusted via the ECU unit which can only be accessed with a VAGCOM.. its a programming computer used for VW engines that is not a standard engine computer. You can find home mechanics that have VAGCOM units that may help you out in your area by going to TDICLUB.COM. This is a VW Diesel site, but the VAGCOM is used for both and there is a list there with city and states of people who have home version (software and computer) You will find most of them like me are more than willing to share and help. You also didnt mention the mileage and last time you replaced the timing belt. The VW belts are only good for 60k miles and have to be replaced or else they stretch and slip, or worse break causing misfire, no start, etc.

How to change spark plugs for 2000 vw beetle

With the intake where it is this can be verry hard. You may have to pull the intake manifole to get it done. I can pull 1,3,4 but 2 is a problem. Check with a good auto parts store many times they have people with mechanical skills and loaner tools.

Need fuse descriptions for the fuse box. some of the symbols on the card I do not understand.

Send me an email address and I will forward alond an image for the fuse block descriptions in a 1998 VW Beetle. Likely identical to the 2000 VW Beetle. Section 3.2 of your Owner's Manual also contains a pictoral representation of the fuse block, including descriptions for each fuse.
