Question about 2004 Volkswagen Jetta

1 Answer

2004 Jetta Help! I have a 2004 Jetta and it ran great until one day I turned it off and it wouldn't start again. At first there was nothing, then a few more tries, it just clicked and the lights started flashing and the CD in the player even ejected (thought my car was possessed). My son and his friend came and gave me a jump and it started. The friend said it was my alternator. I replaced the alternator and battery and now it will start up, but won't stay running. It acts like it isn't getting gas even though I am stepping on the gas pedal. Also, we can hear a small motor running even when the key is out of the car! When my son took one of the fuses out by the battery, it stopped. Any suggestions?

I am having some issues with the fuel pump we suspect. The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank and occationally I can hear a motor running secondary to starting the diesel. As things have progessed i initial thought perhaps I had a hole in my muffler, but my mechanic has assured me that is not the case. The fuel pump may be a good place to start.

1990 Jetta stopped suddenly without warning while driving.

Other possibilities are a blown ignition module, bad coil wire, or broken cam sensor (it's attached to the distributor). There are detailed tests for these in the Bentley, but your mechanic ought to be able to troubleshoot.

This is presuming it's really a no-spark failure. Ground or power faults can disable the computer, the fuel pump circuit can be open, etc.

I have a 1997 chevy blazer. when you turn the key the engine will rotate but no spark.

Sounds like a problem I had. I needed a new fuel pump. A mechanic gave me a way get around it for a few days until I could get it brought it. He told me to turn the key to on (only far enough where the radio comes on) count to like 15 and then turn it back to off and then start it. That seemed to work for a bit and kept me from killing my starter. Once the fuel pump was replaced though, it ran great. I wouldn't suggest doing the "key" thing for an extended period though. Like I said I just did that a few days or so. I hope this helps you.

I would check the fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuel pump fuse. When you turn key to "start" you should hear the fuel pump turn on. If no sound then check the above. A cheap 12V probe tester can detect volts at the fuel pump electrical plug.

i just had the same problem in my bmw 325i. Probably vaccum leak or exhaust leak. Check that nothing came loose in these areas. It takes time for your car to learn the new CPS (cam pos. sensor) so give it a few days and reset the code again and see if it works.

Could be the fuel pump. Try hitting the bottom of the fuel tank a few times while someone try's to start it, if it starts then the pump is on it's way out.
