Can you find the remaining end of the hood-release cable under the dashboard inside the car? You may have to take out a couple of nuts or bolts to get the panel off. And the cable is probably inside a protective sleeve or tube. You will have to pull on the cable with a pair of pliers (not the sleeve).
A break can happen at any point on the cable, The procedure do this is by working with a long screwdriver through the grill trying to fish the plastic cable towards you as then you cut it and just pull hard on the plastic housing of the cable till it releases, the cable is only slipped into an opening right near latch and unclips really easy one you get to it. If you can manage to get the cable housing out of the U shaped holder, you can get to the cable housing, pull hard on it. The only other option is to really work at trying to manipulate the latch with screwdriver.Get a long flat screwdriver and a flashlight, look thru the grill from the passenger side of center to see the mechanism towards the bottom back of it.You will see were the cable should be, slide the screwdriver thru the grill and push towards the driver-side.It will take some time.Reach around the back of the mechanism till you feel the screw driver is touching the little lever/knob that the hood release is on , then push it with screw driver. It will release the hood. ------------------ This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

You might have to take out the grill to get at the latch, or cut back the plastic part of the cable and use a pair of vise grips to pull the wire to open the hood.

There is no emergency latch. The best way to get it open is to remove the cable from the release latch in the footwell, then use a pair of pliers to pull the cable and open the hood. You might even have to strip the cable covering back a little to get to the cable.

My 1998 Intrepid has a broken hood latch. When I pull on the inside latch, nothing happens. How can I open my hood, and fix this problem for the future ?

can you grab a piece of the cable from under dash?if so pull it and see if it will open.
if not you will have to try to get at latch from under car.
if you cant get at it find a reasonably priced body shop they are pros at getting stuff like that open
then get a new cable or pull handle or latch whichever it needs and replace it

Cable broke on hood latch of 95 cherokee cant get hood to pop

first, try smacking the hood at one of the front corners while someone else pulls the release handle. or even after you've pulled on it. if that works, once open, adjust and lubricate the hood latch assembly. if it still won't open, and it's the cable and not the latch you'll have to replace it anyway, so instead of removing the grill, cut the cable behind the pull lever under the dash where you can reach it. then skin the outer cable insulation away from the actual steel cable exposing an inch or two of it. then holding the insulation and plastic housing with pliers, grab the steel cable itself with pliers and pull it to open the hood. then replace the cable. the further you can reach up under the panel the better your chances of getting past the broken part of the cable and avoid removing the grill. you might also be able to gain access from up under the car if you're lucky.

Hood release is broken...need to open hood

A hood release works with a cable that pulls the latch open. if you have a long flat head screw-driver you can try to spring the latch itself through the front grill.

Hood release cable is broken

Is there any part of the cable inside the cabin that you can pull with a pair of pliers? I suggest that you try that. You may need to disassemble it from the pull handle to make that work.
