1992 F350-7.3 4wheel drive is hard to start after changing fuel filter and fuel pump. Why is it hard to start?

indicates fuel leak back and fuel pressure drop
check filter installation for seal not sitting properly, loose fuel line fitting , pump installed correctly (flow wise ), filter installed correctly (flow wise)
air getting in to fuel lines
the thing you are looking for is indicated by the initial hard start but when started runs ok ( good fuel to the engine eventually) and then by the fact that if the engine is allowed to sit for a long period the problem returns meaning that the fuel pressure is not being held
could even be a problem fuel pressure regulator allowing the fuel to bypass ( no pressure =hard starting) then gets enough pressure to run ok but allows that pressure to drain off over time

HI, 2.8 pajero fuel flow problem? Fuel has a struggle to get to the filter I have put in a filter none return valve, but it will only just start after spray in the air intake, any help welcome please!

I think you have done no real diagnostic work here, it is my guess that you need a new fuel pump, it is mounted inside the fuel tank.

Mitsi pajero 2.8d 2001 turns over for ages before starting and revs for a while and then sometimes cuts out ?

Sounds like fuel pump seals. Remove your fuel filter and have a look see if its black.
I have one so try looking on pocuk. pajero owners club uk great place for advice as we all have these trucks and need help every once in a while.

Hope this helps.
Also I run my truck with 250ml of two stroke oil in £50 worth of diesel helps the injectors to work better ;-)

How do i change the fuel filter on a 1992 Ford F 250 7.3 Liter diesel.

fuel filter problems come in slowly as in loss of power. It it just died and will not start I would be looking elsewhere for the problem. A good place to start would be the fault codes to check for cam/crank position sensor faults, immobiliser operation, timing belt condition. If you ran the fuel too low it may have air in the system that will have to be bled out. Best have an accredited diesel shop specialist look at it.

please check the fuel filter maybe the filter is clogged already and check the fuel line,if ok check the glow plug one by one at the top of the clylinder head, get a tester to check the continuity of the glow plug.the reading is around 5 ohms.

I have a 1992 Chevy Silverado 4x4 wit a 6.5 liter diesel that is hard to start when cold and tends to stall and seems to miss quiet a bit. Could this be due to water in the fuel? I think I saw somewhere...

could be water in the fuel as condensation will form in the tank from the hot return fuel in the cold fuel tank
there should be a water drain on the bottom of the fuel filter
If you don't have one , then get a filter that has the water separator as part of the unit
Now for your problem
hard starting of diesels comes from
slow cranking speed ( battery too low in charge)
faulty injectors ( squirting and not atomizing--- replace injectors
tips of the injectors damaged by the water in the fuel
glow plugs not working
one way to stop water in diesel is to keep the tank as full as possible to keep moisture laden air out on the tank
the water drain should be activated at least weekly

I drowned my 1985 2.5td pajero and want to know what to do to fix the engine. i have already blown all the water out by taking out the glow plugs and turning the truck over. what else do i need to do?...

Hi Amandafer906,
I would have changed to air filter if it was badly flooded. If it was a clean filter it would be OK after drying it out.
You didn't say so but I would also have changed the oil filter.

Did you dry out the following items under your hood:
1. main fuse box (remove the plastic cover to help dry it out)
2. starter motor (and attached starter solenoid)
3. alternator
4. Engine Control Unit (sometimes called ECM) (might not be under the hood as it could be under the dashboard)
5. Main relay box (sometimes under the hood)

Did you check for water in:
1. Power steering reservoir
2. Brake fluid reservoir
3. Fuel tank

If its an auto transmission, water "could" have got down the auto transmission dipstick tube. I would change the auto transmission fluid if there is any milky clouding in the red oil on your auto transmission dipstick indicator marks. If it a manual gearbox then ignore the above sentence.

I assume the Pajero has been completely dried out, especially the wiring area under the dashboard. I am unsure if your dashboard console (ie the speedometer and guage section) is waterproof.

PS Feel free to vote for my answer or add a testimonial if I have helped you.

4d56 Pajero Turbo Diesel, blow's alot of smoke under load. Replaced airfilter and using injector additive atm. Still blows a heap of smoke.

If your car is fitted with Manifold Air Pressure sensor (MAP) check that is operating OK. Sometimes if this is as at fault it can send the wrong signal that the engine is running lean and the engine computer (ECU) in turn compensates by injecting extra fuel. The clouds of smoke are unburnt fuel so not only does it look bad but it is wasteful/costly. The fault on a MAP can evolve slowly and therefore evades the computer diagnostics check for some while before being picked up. Also on the list of things to look at are:- 1) the mass air sensor on the air filter ducting 2) the EGR exhaust gas recirculation valve (perhaps needs a thorough clean) 3) the differential pressure feedback exhaust (DFPE) sensor - lies upstream of the EGR but if faulty can combine to lead to errors in fuel injection quantities.

Engine hard to start when cold seems to require a lot of pumpimg of the accelerator pedal. Vehicle also unexpectedly quits running while in progress.

possible casues of this problem: clogged fuel filter, bad fuel pump, or dirty injectors.

new fuel filter

air it ok?

pump should be checked...".dismiss if you think it works.

get a good injector cleaner..

there are alot more possibilities but these are the most vital
