Question about 1998 Dodge Intrepid

1 Answer

It's a 1998 Dodge Intrepid 2.7L, and the radiator cooling fans won't come on. We replaced the radiator fan hi relay, but they still don't come on. What should we try next? Should we have changed both the hi and the hi/low relays?

several reasons
if it has a viscous fan hub( clutch) replace it
blocked radiator cores
fins missing from radiator cores, timing, air /fuel ratio to lean
faulty head gasket /cracked head ( needs a compression test)
air lock in the cooling system
if electric fan check fuses and relay to start the fan

Cooling fans wont come on

Have you replaced the relays for the radiator fans? They are located in a box near the battery. All of the relays are the same(like a 20 amp fuse) so you can test the relay by moving them around. Try using the cruise control relay in its place and see if it comes on.

Changed relay switch for radiator fans now check engine light won

So youre saying the fans are coming on and going off like they should, have you changed your thermostat and be sure to burp the system getting out all the air bubbles. And the check engine light will not always go out on its own, most times manually clearing it or disconnecting the battery is the only to go if you dont have a generic scan tool

the relays will not cause fuses to blow. you have a problem with the fan motor itself. replace that it should take care of your problem.

1997 dodge intrepid running hot!

check first if you are loosing water or cooling fluids on your radiator. There may be a leak or the radiator cap may no longer prevent the steam from escaping. check the radiator fans if they are turning. You can check the fan if it is working by removing the temp sensor at the lower radiator hose. The fan should turn on by then.

My 97 dodge intrepid 3.5L is running hot.

Most likely a bad fan relay, or a bad temp sensor. Does the fan come on with the A/C? If not, most likely the relay, if so, most likely the temp sensor.
