Question about 1998 Oldsmobile Regency

1 Answer

1998 olds regency with 3800. On startup car stumbles and hesitates a bit then smooths out. If starting when car is warm it is worse and sometimes won't start at all. Sometimes reving up helps to smooth it out. Sometimes it runs just fine. The times that it won't start is only when it is good and warmed up. The engine light is not on and there are no trouble codes present. I've had the control module(under coil paks) tested and tests fine. Also car has new cam sensor. I'm getting frustrated with it.

How long since overall tune-up? Use a gage and check proper fuel pressure, key on engine off. vin K 48--55 psi. Also, check that the fuel pressure will hold for bit, with the key off.
Check fuel trims when problem is ongoing, see if trying to add or remove fuel? If temp related check the coolant temp sensor.
Over-fueling on a hot engine can make it hard to start. Pushing the pedal to the floor should put it in "clear flood mode" and help it to start.
Could be other issues?

SOURCE: my car wont stay running

Does the engine die as soon as you release the key, or does it run for a couple of seconds after you release the key and then die? If it dies as soon as you release the key, try holding the key for a few seconds and see if it will stay running as long as you are holding the key (the starter will make a grinding sound while holding the key but won't hurt anything). If it stays running while you hold the key then dies when you release it, that indicates that the ignition switch is bad.

SOURCE: 94 Bravada that stumbles and stalls.. won't start when warm..

Try checking the exhaust flow when someone else is pushing down on the gas petal. The farther the petal gos down, the more exhaust should be coming out. I replaced my catalitic convertor at 44000 miles, it was clogged. I had them install a high flow type.

I would fix the check engine light first. What code is it exactly? If it has to do with the cam position sensor that would most deffinately cause the problem you are describing.

Keep working it around till it can be removed. I recall some where you had to bend them a bit nearly to the point of breaking them before they could be removed.
