Sounds like a vac leak. Check all small vac lines in engine compartment and check intake bellows. When in manual mode you tend to be into throttle more lowering vac to eng.

My 2001 Saturn L300's automatric transmission shifts hard and the wrench light goes on after driving for a while

Does this car run properly, motor wise. Any hesitations ? I have 2 of these cars one auto, and one 5 sp. I had the same problem and it was a sensor in the motor, not transmisson. You may want to have the car's code read. That would be the cheapest way to pinpoint it

Just to verify, have you removed the hubs and verified they move freely in either direction? and that the vaccuum diaprhagm inside the hub is working? By stating the vaccuum system, you do have AUTO hubs correct? I have fixed these problems many a times and found it is usually the auto hub assembly itself is not properly operating.

The transfer case will not shift into 4 wheel hi or low 4 wheel drive auto with elect shift

I would suspect the vacuum disconnect motor or the vacuum solenoids for the disconnect motor ( or the vacuum lines ), but best to confirm
Lift and support the front of the truck so the front wheels are off the ground ( take safety precautions, chock wheels, jack stands, etc )
Key on, engage 4x4 and try to turn the front drive shaft.
If it turns it is a problem with the transfer case.
If it doesn't it is a front axle engagement problem.

With the engine running ( and wheel chocked, parking brake on ) have someone shift into 4WD, and watch the shift motor to see if it operates
It is on the front axle, looks like this

If the disconnect motor does not shift, you can check the vacuum on the lines with a vacuum gauge. Blue line is 4WD operation, pink line is 2WD operation.
The vacuum solenoids are on the firewall, and look like this

This is the block diagram for the ESOF vacuum operation of the disconnect motor.

This is assuming you have checked the fuses for the transfercase shift motor, and the vacuum solenoids.

Ive got a hyundai coupe 2.0se auto and its doing 4000rpms in 55-60mph does this sound like is not hitting all the gears in the auto box ?

Yes it does. My 2.0 runs about 2300-2500 at 55. (this is a rough idea of rpm level dont shoot me if its off a little, since i try to pay more attention to the road than the gauges:) ) Can you feel the car when it shifts? Count the shifts if u can if not, Find somewhere safe to mess around and try to watch the tach and drive and watch for drops in rpms and count how many times it drops( accelerate a little harder than normal driving, but not so hard you run it all the way up to 6500 before it shifts.)
From first to 2nd would be one **** or rpm drop
2nd to 3rd would be two.
3rd to 4th would be three.

Sometimes a little Berkebile 2+2 gum cutter sprayed down the tranny fill tube will loosen up a sticking valve (about 15-20 seconds worth of spraying) then drive it at least 30 miles or 50 km's.

Neutral is only used when you need to tow the jeep. Normal two wheel driving is done in 2h. To engage 4wheel drive keep rolling slowly and engage either 4h or 4L. Generally 4L is almost never used as it is for pulling weight like a vehicle stuck in a snowbank. If it does not return to 2h when you go back into two wheel operation, many times it will if you back up about ten or twenty feet. Don't engage 4 wheel drive while standing still. and never force the lever if you hear grinding.

Can I tow my 4X4 auto grand cherokee behind a Mtr Hm? I will put everything in N (transfer case & Trany)

I have a jeep wrangler and to have it towed you are suppose to put the transverecase in neutral after you first depress brake pedal put trans in neutral then start engine shift auto trans into drive release brake pedal make sure there is no movement, shut engine off with key left in acc position shift auto trans into park, disconnect neg battery cable (damage can result in trans if shifted into park while transvere case is in neutral with engine running) you should refere to your owners manuel
