The key won't come out of the ignition. The car is in park and I can't turn it all the way back to the point to take it out.

  • Anonymous Nov 19, 2008

Get out the owner's manual. Look in the book around the section that describes the features on/around the steering wheel. It will tell you about the little covered compartment that the other post is talking about. The button is a little ***** thing that you push towards the drivers door that will unlock the ignition for you to take out your key.

Next step, take it to the dealership/shop. Chevy knows there is a problem and they'll be able to fix it. The car isn't registering that it's in "park" so the ignition switch doesn't unlock.

My key got stock in the ignition and my husband yanked it out in the one position. I unlocked it after reading the post about the steering column. Now the damn car will not start. We gave it a jump and it started but died right out. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong. The anti-theft lock light was on but since the key came out it did go off. Any suggestions on what to do

There's a plastic cover on the bottom of your steering column facing your lap as you sit in the seat. pop it off. put your thumb in the hole and poke upward toward the dash until you feel a button. hold it in and the key comes out.

SOURCE: 98 ranger locked in park, ignition key won''t turn to start

there is a harness that feeds the ignition remove your steering wheel cover and you will see about a dozen wires going into a clip that is attached to the back of the steering wheel , those wires give way and are not making contact reach in to the back and pull the harness forward and then try and push each wire back into the clip try this and see if it works it solved my problem basicly it is just a loose wire in the harness,,

SOURCE: key stuck in ignition but it will turn, and

you most likely have a bad key switch cylinder assembly. you can try to spray wd40 solvent into the switch before you have the switch replaced, but sometimes it's a switch replacement that repairs the problem. have you inspected your ignition key to look for damage to the key itself? try a spare key to make sure it's the key,and not the key switch. you can also try turning the key while turning the steering wheel at the same time to get the key to work.sometimes the switch locks when parked in a bind, such as on a hill,or against a curb and so on. try this 1st before you have the ignition switch replaced. AAA auto club,if you're a member covers part of the replacement costs for a replacement switch also. you may have coverage through a cell phone also.one more thing to try, if you have a tilt steering column, try to reposition the steering wheel to see if you can get the key to turn. remember never force it enough to break your key off into the switch! thank you for choosing fixya.com!

If the ignition wont lock in place, just redo it but this time you need to realize that you install the key cylinder with the key in the ON postion, straight into the lock cylinder housing, aligning the retaining tabs,on the key cylinder with the hole in the lock cylinder housing. Then turn the key to the off position,

Key in ignition won,t turn 2004 ford escape

several things, does key go in and out easily, turn steering wheel in both directions while turning key. sometimes the steering wheel lock binds the lock cylinder and turning wheel releases the pressure and it will turn. other than that the ignition cylinder is jammed, wet key lightly with lubricant such as wd-40 and a light bit in key hole and try key again, If key is heavily worn out , try a different ignition key as it might not be disengaging all the tumblers in lock, if all this fails you need a new cylinder.

If your steering wheel is locked, turn it a bit away from the locked position. Key should turn now.
