You can use http://www.automd.com/repaircost/ to estimate the repair cost. It would be around $2000. It's so expensive because the differential costs around $2300 and its pretty time consuming.

Have whinning noise when turning right or slowing down sounds like a power steering noise in rear end

A whinning noise while turning is an indication of a worn bearing. The extra pressure put against the bearing/race during the turn and the closing of a gap creates this noise.I would chech the axle bearings on the side of the truck on the outside the curve when you hear it. What I'm saying is if you hear it when you turn left....check the right side bearing

Deceleration noise

I would have to say that your front wheel bearings are no good and need replacing that is the usual sound they make and the pitch changes threw out the driving speeds and corners I would say.

Rear end is whinning in 96 chevy s-10 blazrer

Most likely your differential ring gear carrier bearings are worn and the alignment of the pinion gear to the ring gear is out of tolerance. If your truck is full time 4x4 from the factory there is also a good chance that the rear differential housing is also worn where one of the carrier bearings (left side most likely) is mounted. This is a fairly difficult repair to do at home due to the close tolerances that need to be measured to make sure the two gears mesh properly. If the differential housing is damaged then the entire rear axle should be replaced.

Why does my 2005 Kia sportage make a whining sound

If the noise is in the rear of car could be carrier bearing bushings or worn bearing rear end third member if noise can be heard at all speeds

2000 Chevy Blazer 4x4...started making a horrible loud noise after my cruise control went out. I have recently replaced my hub and the brake pads and the CV axle. The noise comes and goes and only happens...

does it get louder above 45-60mph? and much quieter at low speeds. It could be wheel bearings, a rear differential or front differential. If its a grinding humming noise its wheel bearings, listenin to see if theyre coming from the front or rear, left or right, or both when your driving to know what wheel bearing are bad. If its a whinning noise, its probably a differential. check and listen to hear if its coming from the front or rear. Also, check for loose plastic around the wheels. Lastly check your tires for uneven or choppy wear. move your hands front to back on the top of the tire. does it feel really choppy and rough, maybe you just need new tires

Two weeks ago I had my mechanic fix the leaking rear differential pinion seal. I am now noticing a loud whinning coming from the rear of the truck. When I take truck out of gear while rolling (above...

When a pinion seal leaks gear oil, dirt usually gets inside the gear case. The first bearing to get damaged is at the front of the pinion shaft. It's a standard practice to inspect it [ if any damage is noted, then investigate further ] when replacing the seal and change the gear lube as it's usually contaimiated. Another item is the tightness of the retaining nut on the front of the shaft which sets the pre-load on the pinion bearings, if this is set too tight it will cause the bearings to fail.
Sometimes the seal is just replaced without looking at anything, you should ask your mechanic.
Chances are there's a bearing failing, it will or has caused extensive damage. You Should have it checked ASAP.

Suspect a worn left side spider gear or it's bearing in the differential. If a limited-slip differential, the left side clutch may be grabbing somewhat. In any case, the differential will need to be removed from the case to service any worn or defective components. Rear end service is not for inexperienced mechanics. Have you checked the fluid level in the differential? Hope this helps!
