Why is my engine making a ticking sound?

If there is no noise in the engine at idle but when you drive off then it is the movement that i9s causing the ticking sound. If you have a front wheel drive vehicle check the cv joints for wear or check u-joints for dry and worn on the tail shaft.

2010 Honda Civic LX light ticking noise at Idle. 49000 miles on it. No Performance problems observed, But I was curious what the noise might be, And if Autozone can check the codes for anything wrong...

I doubt a "ticking" would cause a code unless it was something like a lifter sticking which may cause a misfire but your engine light would be on if this were the case. Now can you at least narrow down the area it is in like maybe one of the pulleys for your drive belt or does it seem to be in the engine itself. You can try taking the belt(s) off and starting the engine for a short time. If the "ticking" goes away without a drive belt(s) on it, then you need to find out what componant (alternator, A/C compressor, Power steering pump...you get the idea) is making the ticking noise. Codes are in most cases dealing with a sensor of some sort. Hope this helped you....
