Question about 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

1 Answer

My 1999 Silverado fuel gauge jumps from 3/4 full to 1/4 full while on but in park. Also it has died a couple times lately while turning a corner. It will start right up if cold but if it is warm sometimes it takes 2 or 3 times to start. Any suggestions would greatly appreciated.

Sounds like your fuel pump is going out, I replaced mine at 120,000 miles. The fuel level sending unit is built on the fuel pump, so it will solve your level indication problem as well. The cheapest place I found a fuel pump was, believe it or not, on I searched for the part no., did a search, and found it there at the lowest price.

Changing the fuel pump is not really that hard - would take you and a couple of buddies about 2-3 hours. Email me if you need step by step instructions.

2 beeps when stopping or turning corners 1999 Durango also message check gauges. sometimes fuel shows empty when fuel tank is full and gauges shut down. restart corrects gauge problem

sounds like pcm. When this happens, does it restart right away or do you have to wait? If you have to wait, try wiggling the 3 connectors on the pcm ( located on the inner right fender under the hood). If you do this with the key still on, you should hear the bing again and the fuel gage should come up again. If this works you need a new or rebuilt pcm.

Is needle pointing down a fuel pump problem?

If you thumped on your fuel gauge and it went back up after pointing on 0 it sounds like a bad fuel gauge problem. But, that would not make it die unless you have a short in the electric system causing it to go faulty. How does it idle in park? Any hesitation on acceleration?

2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 randomly will not start. It tries to turn over, acts like it is out of fuel. It appears if I pump it a little and wait approx. 20 mins. it will start. May be a coincidence...

In my opinion it sounds like the fuel pump. For some reason from 2000 to about 2008 the fuel pumps go bad between 65,000 and and 105,000 on that model

2003 chevy silverado, fuel gauge started registere...

Common problem on the 03-06 Silverado instrument clusters for the fuel gauge to go out. It's usually caused by one of two main problems, either the stepper motor on the cluster's circuit board is going out or the sending unit on the fuel pump is going out. Gas gauge jumps past full mark by 1/2 inch when key is turned on, then drops back and jiggles while in park, when you put it in drive the jiggling stops.

fuel level sensor it will eventually set a check eng light. the unit is on top of the fuel pump assembly it is a little black sensor that can be changed by itself or if u wish a new pump assembly will fix it also.

1999 Silverado erratic fuel gauge

The current to the sender can't be allowed to be DC because it could spark and blow up.
So they use a ******** or oscillator to turn it into AC. That could be the problem. It is usually mounted near the gauge.

Fuel sensor gauge

you will need to replace the fuel level sensor.(sending unit) it is in the tank and is hooked to the fuel pump. you can buy seperatly from pump. you may finf it easier to remove the bed if you have some help. it is six or eight bolts and harness unplugs then you can get right to it.

Bronco Wont Start (help please)

Check for timing gear problems. They have plastic teeth on the cam shaft gear which will shatter causing it to jump time.
