Question about 2006 Chevrolet HHR

1 Answer

OK try this one on for size I have a 2006 hhr with 198000 miles. About a year ago the check engine light came on. The car started and ran fine so we didnt take it in. Then a check fuel cap came up and it got hard to start after you remove the gas cap . We replaced the cap with an after market and factory cap and same problem. I had a mechanic hook it to diagnostic and a code saying large evap leak. We found a valve down behind tank had got water in and froze and broke. Replaced that and same thing. It s wierd cause it only happens after removing cap but cranks for a long time starta and dies only way to keep running is to hold throttle down some and put into gear. Once started once it starts fine till you remove cap again.

The charcoal canister is most likely full of water as well. Detatch the lines to the cansiter, remove the canister, and shake... it should have no real heavyness to it and there should be no water, as it is filled with carbon pellets inside.. OK try this one on - consistant_1.gif

Could this be the battery?

This is a bad earth connection . Run a new cable from the battery to the engine or transmission , then run a cable from the engine or transmission to the body . No more trouble.

Lost power steering, then car wouldn't start

What is the condition of the serpentine belt? Is the belt free of oil or coolant? Is the belt tensioner working correctly? If the spring inside the belt tensioner becomes worn. It can not apply enough tension to the belt. Also if the tensioner is corroded it can become seized and cause the same problem. I hope this helps but if not please try to give more symptoms or details. Good luck.

Check engine light flashing in 2006 chevy hhr

If it is running rough & no check engine light on then the first thing I would to is tune it up. If you have a check engine light then pay someone to diagnosis it & go from there. Usually when the light comes on there is a more promenient issue; that is WHY the light continues to flash.
