Question about 1997 Isuzu Rodeo

1 Answer

Just changed all 3 belts now I have a horrible noise, sounds like it needs a major valve adjustment. Why wasn't it making noise before and now it is? This doesnt make sense!!!

If all you changed are the belts external to the engine, your valves should not have been affected. Are you hearing a high-pitched sound when you start it? If so, try tightening the alternator belt a few turns. I have two Rodeos and both will squel if that belt tension is not correct.

sounds like the timing belt has gone would not keep trying to start engine if this is the case and it will cost you more to fix. it may have striped a cog on the belt or the adjuster has given up the goat. clicking and clunk is a most common sound of the belt going. if you have to have the belt changed and the engine runs and is ticking then the valves are bent and you will need to have the head changed or the valves replaced, as over time the valve can snap and then the engine is a gonner.

My blazer is making a ticking noise. I have changed the belt, pulley, and recently the water pump. It now only makes the noise when I give it gas. What could be the problem?

can be anything if coming from upper engine possible problem in head[s] valve tick if truck overheated and oil wasnt changed also may have sludge in engine causing limited oiling of valves, lifters rockers or a valve needs adjusting rocker loose can also be from the parts u replaced need to listen to where noise is coming from

'00 Pathfinder, makes a squeaky noise when engine starts

More than likely the belt is glazed or it is a pulley bearing that is lacking grease. Easiest way to figure this out is to use a can of WD-40 and, with the engine running, spray the pulley area of the alternator, then the waterpump, then power steering and A/C....then the belt last. Do one at a time....this should narrow down your troubleshooting......but sounds like a glazed belt.

Sounds like a loose belt, Depending on what engine etc., it may need to be changed or if you have adjustment, tightened. When adjustment or replacement done, is a good time to check all pulleys. If your not up to it, an adjustment should not cost too much, few minutes work in most cases, if belt needs changing, price of belt & a little more labor involved.
