Hi,

To my knowledge, the error codes refer to:

  • P1168 Closed Loop Control (bank2)
  • P1286 Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor 3 Circuit Performance
  • P1288 Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor 3 Circuit High Voltage
  • P1289 A/F Sensor
Incidentally, there was a Nissan Technical Service Bulletin specifically addressing this issue. It is NHTSA ID #10007555, AUGUST 03 2004. You might be able to have your dealer work on this faults either free or at a reduced price.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

P1168 : Closed Loop Control (bank2)replace O2 sensor or check emission.
Try also to reset the ECU following this procedure and see if you get same codes again, I will find rest of them

P1286 should be Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor 3 Circuit Performance, not sure about this one, test throttle position sensor, if you do not have problems with transmission is not relevant.

    Well Benimur did it,

    • P1288 Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor 3 Circuit High Voltage
Check throttle position sensor, same as 1286

    • P1289 A/F Sensor

Test voltage out from A/F sensor and eventually replace it.

Fail safe kicks in when towing, but the check engine does not turn on. And brought to dealer but there are no code or records of it?

Are you sure that you are not overloading the engine and transmission by towing to much weight?

My 2004 nissan armada has a intrmitting high idle issue. What is the problem

Instead of playing the guessing game get an OBDII code scan done. I know this sounds like a waste of time but there are times when the power train computer will detect issues and not display a MIL (malfunction indicator light) or as most know it the check engine light. If there is a vacuum leak, misfiring injector or coil, low fuel flow, bad sensors or any other cause this will help narrow the search down dramatically. Good Luck.

A/C NOT BLOWING THROUGH FRONT VENTS...2004 ARMADA

The distribution of the air in your car is controlled by little vacuum powered doors in the vent system (inside the dash). You either have a vacuum hose that is disconnected or one of the air valves that runs the door is bad. With the engine running, put your head down under the dash and see if you can hear a hissing noise. If you can, it is a loose hose and just need to be reconnected-not an easy task as there is not much room to work.

Change oil

Set parking brake and use jack stands if you raise the vehicle.
1. Remove engine front undercover.
2. Warm up engine. This is need for the oil to flow freely when draining.
3. With engine stopped loosen oil filler cap and then remove drain plug.
4. Drain oil into a drain pan.
5. Install drain plug with new washer. Tighten to 25 ft-lb.
6. Remove oil filter using a filter wrench.
7. Make sure the surface is free of foreign materials.
8. Apply engine oil to the seal and install your new Nissan filter. Tighten filter 2/3 turn after contact with surface or 13 ft-lb.
9. Refill engine with 6 quarts of oil.
10. Start engine and check for leaks.
11. Stop engine and check oil level and add to the full line.
12. Reinstall engine front undercover.
