Question about Ford F-150

1 Answer

4x4 worked last week, this week i get no reponse from the acctuator switch on the dash, no lights come on I don't hear any click when it should engage. I checked #11 fuse for 4x4 and it is good. I had the the vaccum acctuators and something esle in the vaccum system replaced in December and all was well at the time. Could it have anything to do with the relays as I don't know how they work.

This isn't anything more than what the garage would have done, I am looking to see if this is a common problem and if it can be pin pointed to something in particular. I had the same problem during the coldest days of winter at -30 to -40. I could see at the time that maybe the cold was a factor but this time it's above the freezing mark.

    Ok,

    1. Have the switch on the dash tested and checked for and faults.

    2. Then have the Transfer Case speed sensors checked and tested.

    3. Also check that the Transfer case actuator motor is working correctly.

These 3 areas are really the only major components which can give you trouble, then if these are all ok you will then need to look at the wiring circuit itself and the transmission control module unit.

Let me know if you need more information.

    Thanks

    Jason

Well to pinpoint a actual cause of the problem is difficult for anyone dto do without actually knowing exactly what has been done to the system in the first place. Also you stated that you had the actuators replaced and something else which dosn't specify anything. If the mechanical components are fine then it can only be electrical, therefore you need to check the switch, the transmission control module and the wiring inbetween. This is not a problem which can be pinpointed unless you can be very specific on what was done previously.

I put the truck in neutral, switch to 4x4 high and the front tires on the dashboard will only blink and the 4x4 high or low will not engage.. neither of them working even though I hear that little clicking...

there are 2 switches inside of the transfer case. they are screwed into the bottom of the transfer case. you may have an issue with one of them or both. by the way, you dont need to put the truck in neutral to shift the truck into 4x4 high. you can doit while you are moving. try that also. you do need to stop to put it in 4low. but i would be looking into those switches screwed into the transfer case. we/nissan had some issues with those.

I'll assume that you have a 4x4 switch on the dash; check the shifting motor and plug on the transfer case, or the digital output from the GEM module which controls the 4x4 operation.

hi guys i would check all the small vacume pipes that conect the sol valves toi the vacume actuators having just replaced the engen in mine i found that these do not have any clips holiding them on tight and can get oil on them and become oversized and leak you can test the diaframes in the actuators by putting a length of pipe on one port and sucking by mouth you can hear the actuator move and then find you can put toung on end of pipe and it will hold a vacume if it does not then chances are the actuator diafram id u/s hope this helps bill
