Question about 2002 Volkswagen Beetle Turbo S

I have a 2003 vw beetle with turbo. I keep getting trouble code 2180 cooling system performance. I have no access to the troubleshooting procedures. I need to know the possible problems and cures. thanks KABrumage.

    this code comes and goes. If code is erased it may stay gone for a couple months. If it were the thermostat wouldnt the code come back immediately ?

    Thanks for your reply, I will try replacing the t stat and see what happens from there.

P2180 if it is change your Thermostat out this will get rid of your coolent fault.

    Not nessisarily the thermostat could get stuck open and then also could work again after running this would allow the code to stay until the the thermostat stuck again

Do you AAA, or roadside assistance? They will unlock it. Buy a VW Key, get code from dealership by VIN#, have locksmith make a key or dealership.

I have a 2004 VW Beetle. I keep getting the engine diagnostic code P2181. This code is not in my manual. What is it?


Trouble Code: P2181

Cooling System Performance Malfunction
Possible Causes:


ECT sensor has failed ECT Sensor (on Radiator) has failed ECT sensor signal circuit is open (inspect wiring & connector) ECT sensor signal circuit is shorted Cooling system malfunction, or the thermostat is stuck Engine not operating at normal operating temperature EOT sensor is damaged or it has failed

does it sound like there is any compression. remove cover on the right side that covers t-belt see if belt might have broken. if cooling system failed could have blow fuse for cooling fans. causing overheating.
