2004 smoking from under hood - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

Does the car run hot? Coolant vapor is like mist. Oil smoke would be from a leaking valve cover or from some other type of oil leak. If it were a fuel leak you would smell gasoline fumes. As long as the engine runs OK and is not using oil or needing coolant a good cleaning would get rid of the smoke for a time.

Turned key once, it tried to start but didn't, turned key again but nothing happens except smoking under hood. what is going on with my car?

If you are having smoke coming from under the hood you may have an electrical issue. Check battery and cables for no corrossion as well as tight connections. You may also have a high amperage draw from the starter motor causing excess heat in the wiring producing smoke and may have to have the starter replaced.

White smoke under hood but not over heating. what could this be?

The rubber smell leads me to believe a coolant hose is leaking and getting ready to burst. Better get it fixed immediately!

2004 Mercury Sable 3.0l DOHC is sputtering and smoking on right side under the hood.

Have the engine mounts checked for looseness or shifting. Check clearance between the pulleys and accessories such as the washer fliid container.

Smokes from under hood

First you have to identify the source of the leak. Check the valve cover gaskets if leaking excessively they can leak on to the exhaust where the oil would burn and cause it to smoke and smell. It can also coat the O2 sensor and cause the check engine light to come on.

Rubber smell and slight smoke

a rubber smell?? the best thing you can do is diagnose it properly by blocking it up high enough of the ground and let it smoke then slide yourself under there and see where it originates ... check for witness drip marks on the exhaust first??

Smoke is coming out from under my hood...checked antifreeze and oil so it fine

white smoke usualy tells about a leakage in the cooling. check that. dont forgett to refill. get it repaired or DIY. attention: could be really hot.

if it smells like fuel, a fuel line is broken. then dont drive any more since it can catch fire.

if the smoke is not white, go to the repair shop instantly.
