Question about 2001 Saturn L-Series

1 Answer

My Saturn L300 (2003) starts sometimes and doesnt others. when it does start sometimes it will just die. i have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, crank sensor and the transmission control module. my neighbor seems to think it might have something to do with the security system. is there a way to bypass this system. something to do with the passkey maybe?

If it starts up easily when the engine is cold and has a hard time starting (or won't start) when the engine is warm a lot of times it's related to the ground cable(s). If the problem is related to the security system I would think it would be an all or nothing kind of thing (ie. it wouldn't start and then die). Another thing to check would be your fuel pressure to see if it's actually staying at the correct pressure after the car starts.

2001 Saturn L. I thought I had run out of gas when the car bogged then quit. I tried to fill tank and still won't start. It wants to turn over and acts like its going to but doesn't. The gas flow coming...

I had a similar problem. I gradually lost power (over a week) and then it finally died and wouldn't restart but for a minute and then die again. The solution was replacing the catalytic converter which had been ruined by a bad spark plug. It was a 2001 L200.

My saturn L200 starts then dies, i leave it for a while the problem goes away,

Start by checking/replacing the fuel filter. Then check your fuel pump pressure when the car is warm. Sounds like the fuel pump is weak.

2002 Saturn SC1 - Starts fine and runs well until the engine gets warm. Then I will step on the gas peddle and the engine will die. Sometimes it won't die it will just have no power to move. Fuel Pump?...

Most Likely Coolant temp sensor & connector.Located in cyclinder head under upper radiatior hose. Two wires to connector yellow & black.Replacement sensor is brass (from saturn) Original is ceramic & cracks cause poor performance, stalling, idle issues. Also check plugs & wires for carbon tracking.Replace plugs & wires as a set all at once.Hope this helps

Try checking the fuel filter or the fuel pump. Sometimes if you run the fuel until it is almost empty, it pulls debri off the bottom of the fuel tank and it gets stuck in the fuel filter. It them starves your engine for fuel. Sometimes if you bang on the fuel pump, it will loosen some of this debri, and the vehicle may start, or you may just need to replace the whole fuel pump.
