Question about GMC Jimmy

3 Answers

My repair man says I need a PS Cooler. He said the part cost is aprox $45 with the total including labor aprox $140. I would like to know if a decent back yard mechanic should be able to replace this item? Is this something I could buy myself and not use a certified mechanic?

Depends on what year and model your GMC is but I would say almost any mechanic would be able to do that for less money than any certified one. Labor for that should be about an hour, hour and a half.

You should be able to do the job yourself! just go to an auto parts store and buy one. they should tell you how to replace it. go to auto-zone if possible. have a good day !! it will cost you a whole lot less money.

Yes, you dont need a tech to replace this, not sure the year make or model but the power steering cooler is just a line bent around to cool the fluid before it comes back to the pump, its a cut and dry job. good luck.

How much for a tune up

Most dealerships charge labor at about $70 per hour. A tune up will take about 2 hours, so your labor cost is about $140 (this will vary by location and it will be less if you go to an independent shop). They should do a computer scan, a road test and idle test. New spark plug wires are about $40.00, spark plugs are about $15.00. Oil change and filter will be about $45. Rotate and balance all tires will cost about $60. A new air filter rins about $14.00.

A reasonable price for the pump is $270.00. Labor should be around $50.00. The pump is very easy to get to.

I have 88 lariet and the engine check is on what is the first step to do to solvent the problem it has 140000 miles

Go to an Autozone or Oreillys for a free scan. Yours is an older model truck, but still has diagnostic fittings on it. If there are no driving problems with the truck yet, it may not be expensive to repair.

You can believe the man who scans it or if you do not, just get the Code munber and contact us with the reply function and myself or someone will explain the code.

Also if you know what is wrong you can call around for the Repair price. Some shops make money off of the parts too, in addition to Labor charges. So if the part costs $25 a shop may charge you $45 and Labor. Others may put your part on for just Labor, but you need to ask first.

I hope you are happy with my service, Thanks for using Fixya.

How much does a tune up cost

For a basic "tune-up," the rates as low as $30-$50 in places where the cost of living is low, to as much as $100 or more in expensive areas where more is included in the tune-up.
Most places will charge you for parts and labor separately. Often tune-up parts like spark plugs, air filters and fuel filters will run $20-$60. The hourly labor quotes are from $40 an hour, to over $110-$150 an hour at BMW and Mercedes dealerships in urban areas. In the San Francisco Bay Area, the ordinary repair shops charge rates from $55-$80 an hour, and ordinary dealerships rates of $80-$90.
Dealer 30k, 60k or 90k mile tune-ups can run from $250 for 3-4 hours of labor and basic maintenance, to over $1,000 at places with high labor costs and additional maintenance services, such as timing belt replacement.
If the mechanic identifies needed repairs, this can add a significant amount to your total.

Ihave a steering fluid leak on my 2003 cavalier . first it seemed to leak a litle and now it is just pouring out . How would I fix this problem?

the most common power steering leak in these cars if from the fluid cooler line - it runs straight down from the pump, behind the frame, then up to the rack. if the leak looks like its coming from the passengers feet area, this is the leak. very common. unfortunately, it is slightly beyond the scope of a home repair as the front frame needs to be dropped down slightly to gain access to change the line. the line costs aprox. $150 CDN and i believe about 1.5 - 2 hours shop time for labor. good luck!

I took my car to the repair place because i have a coolant leak.. The guy said that i need my water pump replaced and it will cost $600. I called auto zone and the guy said that a water pump for my car...

Labour cost man, I don't know how much the repair shop owners pay to their mechanics, but yes that's over charged, If they work 6 hours on that engine to replace the water pump, it shouldn't cost more than $240, and this price includes all their costs and labor and benefit. try asking them how many hours are they gonna work on that car, and multiply that by $40/hr, it shouldn't take them over 4 hours to install a pump.

Cost to repairs 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8

Fuel pumps can cost up to $200. And it is more than likely in the gas tank. They will have to drop the tank to fix it. I payed $140 in labor on my 91 buick.

Timing belt replacement for a 1999 Audi A4(elective)

Well, the labor on this specific Audi will be 5.5 hrs+ parts. the labor depends on the shop. every shop is different. lets say you brought it to my shop.my labor charge is 50 dollars an hour so, that will be a $275.00 labor charge added to the part cost which would be $220.44 for the timing belt and tensioner combined. this brings you to a total of $495.44 for the total repair. Keep in mind, this figure was calculated on the basis of a 50 dollar an hour labor charge. it can flucuate ethier way, depending on what shop you take this vihical to. I must say that, its better to replace it before it breaks and, it is a good rule of thumb to replace the water pump as well at the same time as this repair.

Please rate and have a great day:)

2004 Chrysler Sebring problems

That dealer is ripping you off. Ask around to find a good repair shop.
Just for the heck of it, I called an auto parts store, and the cost of the timing belt is around $36.00 and the sensor is about $100.00.
Different shops charge different labor rates. But it shouldn't cost anywhere near that dealer. Good luck.
