Question about 1993 Isuzu Trooper

Top of the engine is ticking. friend told me it could be a valve that is clogged or stuck open and thats its not a huge problem but it might be mixing gas and oil. to me that sounds like a problme. websites say its "Ticking noise from the top of 3.2L V6 engine may be due to hydraulic lash adjuster failure caused by varnish deposits and using 0W-30 Mobil I synthetic oil has been successful in cleaning them." what is the most likly answer.

It sounds like hydraulic lifter noise. The lifters open and shut the valves and can be helped by using a good synthetic oil and frequent oil changes. Lash is the clearance between the valves and lifters.

Suzuki swift used to tick over at 800 revs, now ticking over between 600 and 800 revs, engine shudders a bit

which engine, what year.?
egr struck open , partially is #1 cause of low idle
and never getting a tuneup.

the ECU, does all it can to hold 800, hot, all day,no matter what.
but
will fail if:
1: not tuned up, called misfire. (shudders is misfire)
2: too lean (low fuel pressure.)
3: leaking injectors, more misfire. (or clogged)
4: egr stuck open a tad, or stalls if open fully.
5: ISC stuck closed.

Where is the throttle body located?

old post , and great question

the TB is a thing that contains the AIR throttle, the body holds

that TV throttle valve (or some call it a TP throttle plate)

this car has 6 engines, and varies by country. what country>?

what engine? (USA cars have a hood EPA tag, it states the engine)

sure cleaning it can help and for sure with throttle by wire.

the body gets full of EGR/PCV crap. (called GUNK) and if not

removed on high mileage cars, it jams the silly throttle by wire

motor. (and related\'s)

why not scan the PCM and SEE ALL DTC errors.

that be first. !!!

loose power has many causes, up to 50.

why not scan it first, (the CEL lamp to me is useless , unless stuck on)

scan it first.

this engine has many limphome modes (suzuki failsafe)

and will run slow. in limp mode.

scan it.

the TBW , throttle by wire has it\'s own limp mode.

the transmission too, and others.

The TBW has up to 4 TPS sensors. 2 on the foot and 2 in the TB

if ANY of the 4 , do not AGREE, you go to LIMP HOME MODE>

or end up like a Toyota and huge class action lawsuits.

loss of power, not transmission caused, (slips or skips gears)

is engine power loss.

cause by (top ones of 50)

1: never getting a tuneup. and for sure the 60k mile.

2: misfire, caused by 3 major things. ask.

3: flooding.

4: bad spark see #1

5: clogged air filters see #1

6: clogged fuel filter.

7: weak fuel pump.

8: and the big one is loss o f engine compression for huge list of causes.

9: not scanning the PCM and believing what it told you. !!!

Newly installed EGR Valve stuck open

A code P0411 means that there is insufficient flow in your secondary air injection system, this is totally separate from the egr (exhaust gas recirculation) system. Has the vehicle been re-scanned? You should also know that if an egr valve is stuck open, the vehicle would be almost un-driveable, as it would create a huge vacuum leak.
If the same code is coming up, I would take a very close look at the hoses going to and from the injection pump. Check for any kinks or damage.

Valves in 2003 ford focus SE 2.3L are loose...how do I fix them?

I doubt if the valves are loose or need adjustment as the engine should have hudraulic tappets which adjust automatically when the engine is running. I suggest that your friend take off the rocker cover and see if anything is out of place. As the engine is 10 years old it is possible that the tappets may be badly worn and not working properly hence the noise

Ticking in the engine along with service light-p0442

Your engine code (DTC P0442 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Small Leak Detected ) should not have anything to do with a ticking sound. The evaporative system keeps you from having a gas smell under the hood and in the car.

As far as ticking goes ... it could be many things. You are correct, it could be lifters. If you take a long screwdriver and with the engine running place the handle end against your ear and touch the blade end to the top of the valve cover the screwdriver will act as a stethescope. If the ticking gets a lot louder somewhere on the valve cover then yes, you have a lifter making noise. If the motor ran really low on oil, and then one or more lifters started ticking you can try running about a half quart of transmission fluid in the oil for about 15 minutes at ididle while gently changing the rpms between idle and about 2500 to see if it loosens up the lifter(s). Change the oil after you do this.

To test the PCV valve, with the engine running pull the PCV valve out of the valve cover (leave it attached to the vaccuum hose) and place the tip of your finger against the now exposed tip of the PCV valve. It should make a snapping noise and **** your finger against the opening in the valve. If it does not, then make sure the vaccuum hose does not have a leak in it. If the hose is good, shut the car off, remove the valve from the vaccuum hose, and use some carburetor spray and clean it out. I clean mine each time I change the spark plugs. If the valve is stuck or clogged this could be causing the oil pooiing problem in the air intake tube you describe from excessive crankcase pressure.

If you still have not found the ticking noise, it could also be in the lower end of the motor. This is the only "bad" place for it to be out of what I have described. If it is a lifter and the noise is not really loud, it is not dangerous to drive.

that's a huge vacuum leak. Block off intake ^ spray a little starting fluid caefully around top of engine to find when engine revs. That will locate leak. Have a fire extinuisher nearby just in case. IAC could be stuck open.

Stalling problems

Hi
There can be many reasons for stalling. There can be dust obstructed in the carburetor thus the idling system is not working properly. There can be a leakage in the air pipe system and may be the pcv valve got damaged or the secondary accelerator may stuck open or the tick over or mixture not well adjusted.or the air filter may be clogged .So try my friend and it will be ok.
