Question about 2003 Toyota Camry

1 Answer

Last summer we had to replace the radiator on my 1993 Toyota Camry LE. We thought that would fix the problem with the car over-heating, but it didn't. The old radiator was corroded. My car still wants to over-heat. We replaced the sensor on the radiator itself that tells the fans to turn on. We found out the fans aren't working. I've bought new fans and we're going to put them on the vehicle, but I'm worried. If the fans still don't work, what else could be wrong? Also to be noted, the heat doesn't really work, if the car is running for awhile, and the control is set to recirculate, then the temperature will get lukewarm in the winter.

The corrosion you noted when you removed the old radiator is throughout the cooling system and is probably causing a blockage in it, he first suspect would be the heater core. When the new radiator was done, did you replace the thermostat too? If you didn't, replace it now, and get a good commercial flush and thoroughly flush out the cooling system, it might save you from having to replace the heater core.

What can cause water to get very hot and be pushed out into the the coolant reservoir in a 1993 Toyota Camry LE v6?

Several things ... best guess, in order:
1. (very likely) Radiator fan is not blowing (turn on car and a/conditioner. When compressor kicks in, the radiator fan must blow). If it ims not blowing, the radiator fan motor may be burned out ($40).
2. Check / replace "cooling fan" fuse ($1) and / or "cooling fan" relay switch ($7).
3. Could be (not likely) thermostat sticking shut. Replace thermostat ($20)
4. Could be radiator hose collapse (not very likely) ($18)
5. Radiator clog or hose leak (possible)
6. Head gasket broken (not likely unless you don't fix current problem) ($150)

The more detail of the symptoms, the better we can assist you.

Hope this helps!

I'd remove the thermostat and run it. If the problem continues, it could be head gaskets, but, v6 head gaskets rarely fail. Also make sure that teh rad cap is good; have it pressure tested.

The thermostat housing is located by grabbing the upper radiator hose, and following it back to the engine block.
The housing that the hose is connected to is the thermostat housing.
Changing the thermostat will fix your problem!
