If it was not turned over with distributor out of engine, turn over engine by the bolt on damper pulley to tdc ( top dead center ) theres a few marks on pulley ,then put in distributor with rotor button facing # 1 wire on distributor cap. this should do it!! have a good day!! the dist. will turn back about an eighth of an inch when putting in if it turns back, just insert to next step to line up with # 1 on cap.

here is another way to get to tdc. remove # 1 sparkplug, insert a straw or similar in hole on top of piston. if it gets to very top by turning damper pulley just before it goes down, is tdc.

I got a 88 f150 5.0 and it wont start i was needing the timing degree on the hb and maybe a picture of the angle of rotor button and module

Remove No 1 plug, turn engine till compression is felt, align mark on crank pulley with mark on engine block, this is TDC compression stroke No1, Make sure the rotor button is pointing to No 1 on the distributor cap, connect the firing order from No1 in the direction of distributor rotation. start engine fine tune timing with timing light.

Honda ctx200 fresh rebuild ran a couple times but started stalling backfiring when warmes up. took cover off found cam out by one tooth. adjusted and out together now it wont start at all. help please

Is it a dual cam engine? If so make sure can gear marks are aligned. Verify distributor is installed correctly set firing order is correct.only two things cause backfiring. Incorrect timing or incorrect plug wire position at distributor cap

Why wont my '74 f350 stay running?

Check your timing. Your timing chain may have "jumped". They usually do that as you are shutting the vehicle off. Turn the engine over until the timing mark on the crank is at 0 on the pointer. Pull the distributor cap and see where the rotor is pointed. It should be on #1. If it is a long way off, like on the other side then rotate the engine 1 complete turn and check then.

Will start but wont stay running

Most certainly take this back to the mechanic and have them fix this until they get it right.

Where is the crank sensor located in a 1992 what happens is the engine wont start when the block is cold it starts when the outside temp reaches a certain temp

It doesn't have a crank sensor. It has a pick-up in the distributor that runs the ignition module which is also in the distributor. When it won't start does it have spark?

Wont start

recheck all connectors. something has to be left disconnected. if you know there is no spark at plugs i would start around the distributor area.

Installing a distributor

Remove your #1 cylinder spark plug, and bring the piston to the top. Use a straw, or a screwdriver to see when the piston is on top. Place your distributor so the the rotor will point to the number one cylinder (you may have to move the oil pump drive shaft with a screwdriver). From there, you should get the engine to fire, then time it from there.

2007 Chevy silverado 1500 4.8 wont start

If you had to loosen the engine mounts and raise or lift the engine to gain clearance you may have accidentally pulled apart an electrical connector or cracked the distributor cap when it hit the firewall. good luck
