You will need a 9/16" socket and extension and ratchet,5/16" wrench or socket set that is 1/4" drive,9/16" can change this without disconnecting the battery as long as your careful with the large battery cable not touching anything metal.(I wrap a rag around this cable end) undo the large cable nut remove the cable, then undo the small wire connected to the start next to the large cable and remove.move wires out of the way.unbolt the 2 bolts holding the starter to the motor and remove the starter(there may be one or more shims between the starter and the engine block)some of these had a bracket attached to the starter that will need to be in reverse order.

I have grand am gt 2002 most time it starts.replace starter and new battrie. when turn the keyno power to moter I have to turn the keys on and off couple time and then it starts up any ideas on whats

Could be issue with ignition switch or security system? If the starter motor won't crank, check voltage circuits at the starter. Usually two voltage circuits, one is battery voltage, hot all the time. The other voltage comes from crank position of ignition switch. That circuit could be routed through the neutral switch or clutch switch, depending on your tranny.

Any testing at starter make sure tranny is in park or neutral and the parking brake is set.

Pontiac grand am se 2002 won't turn over and

my pontiac did the same thing and all i had to do was replace the 40amp fuse. you can have someone turning the key while you hit the starter from underneath, if it starts then you need a new starter, if it dont then no, its something else. mine did the exact same thing and it was the 40amp fuse under the hod.

Make sure your battery cables aren't corroded, check both ends of the positive and negative cables. Make sure they are clean you an use a small wire brush or pieces of sand paper to clean them. If the cable is corroded down the middle or inside of you will need to replace it.

2002 pontiac grand am. Morning when cold -gauges work ok. starter nothing. when warmer starts fine?

Your bendix needs greased inside your starter - but you should just replace it the starter because the solenoid will be next.
