Question about Pontiac Grand Am
You will need a 9/16" socket and extension and ratchet,5/16" wrench or socket set that is 1/4" drive,9/16" wrench.you can change this without disconnecting the battery as long as your careful with the large battery cable not touching anything metal.(I wrap a rag around this cable end) undo the large cable nut remove the cable, then undo the small wire connected to the start next to the large cable and remove.move wires out of the way.unbolt the 2 bolts holding the starter to the motor and remove the starter(there may be one or more shims between the starter and the engine block)some of these had a bracket attached to the starter that will need to be removed.re-install in reverse order.
