Question about GMC Jimmy

1 Answer

I have a 1998 gmc jimmy 4x4. Have been driving it for a little over 3 years now. I have a couple problems... The air conditioning system quit working 2 summers ago when it got really super hot out and hasn't worked since. the floor blows out scorching hot air though. also, my 4x4 no longer works. Is it the actuator, and if so, what is the reason for this to happen? Is it possibly something faulty in the manufacturing of these types of vehicles? and one more... My paint is severely chipped all alongside the passenger side and starting to buuble on my hood now too. I just about always park in the shade, and only don't if absolutely nowhere else is available. Reasons for this are? Thanks for any help you can possibly give me.

I am experiencing the same problem with my 98' GMC Jimmy. I have a small leak in the A/C compressor, so I have to refill it with freon at the beginning of every summer. Also when shifting out of 4HI to 2HI it has a hard time, and in fact make a whining sound when I'm de-accelerating. I think the cause of this is my transfer case motor, but I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm this?

I have a 1998 GMC Jimmy 4x4 4 Door That has a obnoxious squeak in the front of the motor. My dad and i replaced the serpantine belt and Idoler pollies and it doesnt help. But every time you squrirt WD-40...

It is not the serpentine pulley nor idler but it need a good clean up on the pulley wheels and then spry generously the belt with belt conditioning dressings spray to minimise dry friction.

Can't find flasher relay on 1998 gmc jimmy 4x4. signals and hazard lights don't work

It seem to me GM did something those years, I think there is actually a moduel that you have to replace to get the turn signals to work again. I don't remember what year they went to that but, I think it was right in that area. Sorry I can't be more help.

I have a 1998 GMC Jimmy that has on 160,000

The problem is with your vacuum system. The hubs are operated by a vacuum pump/motor on each individual wheel. This is usually where the problem is. It's not expensive to fix but you might need a vacuum gauge/pump to diagnose which wheel the problem is coming from. Also, the vacuum leak could be from another part of the system. To know whether or not it is try your cruise control. If it works ok then its probably at the wheel. More than likely just a hose since you said it has rarely been used.

If its a push button 4x4 take it to the shop its a VERY COMMON Problem dealing with the electric.Once you pay the $400 to get it fixed get rid of the truck and settle for a Jimmy/Blazer/Bravada with a floor shift 4x4..GM had problems with the push button 4x4.DONT DRIVE YOUR TRUCK IN THE MEANTIME.YOU WILL BLOW YOUR TRANSFER CASE RIGHT OUT OF IT!

1998 gmc jimmy has no 4x4 anymore

Hi there. under your battery is the 4x4 actuator. there should be a vacuum hose that is connected to it. this actuator is the one that will lock your front diff in 4x4. this hose could fall off and you will not have 4 wheel drive without it connected. If that hose is connected, there is another hose which comes from the vacuum switch up the back of the engine and over toward the driver side of the engine compartment. it tees off and one end goes to a little resevoir on the engine hood. with the engine running, check to see if you have vacuum to this hose. also with thye engine running press the 4x4 switch and make sure that the actuator os working. the vacuum should **** the diaphram in and hold it in. If there is vacuum to the diaphram when 4x4 is engaged but the diaphram doesn't hold, you will need a new actuator. Hope this helps you.
