Question about Lexus LS 400

Open Question

I have a 1998 Lexus LS400. I have recharged the a/c with 134a refrigerant. It says that it is fully charged but when I turn the A/C on it only is the fan. What do I need to do to try and solve this problem.

lol had this prob so many times, you will find that you have moisture in the cd exchanger and the way i found this out was on removing my cds first thing in the morning a noticed very slight misting on most of the cds. .i put the wifes hair dryer and blasted warm air into it for a good 15 minutes waited till it cooled down cleaaned carefully my cds replaced and away i went. hasten to add that this was temporary a few days later i got the odd cd not playing . i notice the prob more in cold weather and if the car has not been used for a few days. the boot maybe damp .. good luck .stu

slide the lower part of shifter handle down and you will find two screws, but there is 2 wires coming in from center console for overdrive button.you have to remove the center console cover and remove the 2 wires from connector and then pull up threw handle.when you go back together you will have to guide them back threw the handle.

Adding freon or topping off a cars A/C system is the most common task performed to restore performance and get cold air blowing again. However, adding refrigerant isn’t always the solution for car air conditioning problems. There can be many other things wrong besides a system being low on refrigerant. To diagnose problems, an A/C manifold gauge set is needed to read high and low side pressure readings. Avoid adding refrigerant with a simple charging kit like the ones sold at parts stores. Don’t add any stop leak, this can cause problems in the compressor, expansion valve or condenser.
Keep in mind that using an A/C gauge set and seeing BOTH high and low side readings can help in diagnosing the problem when you know what to look for. First, on a 134A system the high and low side service ports are different sizes. AC gauge sets have color coded hoses, the blue color coded hose has a connection that fits on the low side service port and the red hose has a connection that will only fit onto the high side. The yellow hose won’t hook up to anything if just checking the readings; it can be used to connect to a vacuum pump or attached to a refrigerant can or tank.

*Make sure the condenser fan comes on when the readings are being checked.

Normal readings on high and low side with AC OFF (static pressure) - Depends on outside temperature, but normally is between 80-105 PSI
Normal low side reading with AC on high speed and MAX & engine at 800-1000 RPM’s - Ranges from 25-35 PSI - Note that on many Chrysler products a normal reading on the low side may be 15-25 PSI
Normal high side reading ranges from 200-350 PSI

Don’t assume that if adding little Freon is good that adding a lot is better!  Overcharging just a little can decrease the performance of the system and possibly damage the compressor.

With the AC on the coldest setting, use a thermometer in a middle vent. Normal vent temperature readings will vary depending on the (ambient) outside temp. The vent temperature should range from around 42-55 degrees in my experience. If normal gauge readings are obtained and the vent air is cold - STOP don’t overcharge the system. The only proper way to remove refrigerant is with a AC recovery machine so if this is being done at home I can’t emphasize enough not to over charge the system. And actually the best way to insure the proper charge is in a system, is to use an AC machine to recover the R143a and then evacuate and recharge the system with the correct amount. Most cars have the specified amount on a decal under the hood.

Not too bad. Not much room, just enough to drop the starter. It is probably easier to go up through exhaust if you can get your exhaust shield off the manifold .

Bad battery. if fully charged should read 12.6 volts. bad connections to battery, faulty or dirty contacts in solonoid, starter motor running dry and needing a clean out and oiling

How do i turn on the radio in a ls400 1998


The Nakamichi radio in the 1998 Lexus LS400 is turned on by pressing the large round button on the radio in. This same button also controls the volume by turning it clockwise or anticlockwise. The radio will use the same audio input that it used when it was turned off. The input can be changed using the series of buttons on the right side of the radio, tape, cd, fm, am.

My alternator won'charge and it and the battery


batteries will show 12 v and still not have enough amps to start the vehicle, clean all the connection points on the battery , and charge it fully, start the vehicle and check again for voltage at the battery posts, you should have a reading of 13.5 to 14.5 volts, if not, yes you have a alternator malfunction,

My 93 Lexus LS400 won't start. It clicks and according to the battery charger it has a full charge. when i first turn the ignition is slowly wines down then clicks. let me know. thanks


your battery isn't fully charged, or your battery contacts need to checked/cleaned!! The starter isn't getting enough power, this is the reason for the slow spin and clicks.

I have a 98 Lexus LS400. While driving it, the car simply went dead losing all power, and will not crank again. What does this problem sound like


Have the battery and charging system check first. Sounds like the Alternator may have stoped charging and discharged the battery. Hope this helps. Please leave feed back.

Recharge air on a 1998 oldsmobile bravada


You didnt actually post a question so I will try to help. You need 134a refrigerant and a way to get it into the system. Places like walmart and Advance Auto Parts has what you need. Most diy kits have a hose to connect to the Low Pressure side of the ac system and a guage. The other end of the guage has a connector that fits on the can of 134a. Start the car, turn the ac on high, open the hood. Being careful of moving parts under the hood, connect the hose to the Low Pressure side of the ac and see where the guage is reading. Most are color coded. If it says it needs charged, squeeze the trigger until the can is empty and take another reading. Continue until the guage is in normal range.
