Question about 2000 Lincoln Continental

1 Answer

I just purchased a 2000 lincoln continental for my daughter. She said that the service engine light came on and after that the transmission light came on and went off and came on again. I had the mechanic check it and he said I had a code P1744 and that he would need to check for corrosion and that I need a transmission gasket due to leaking. Could the code P1744 also mean the transmission is going? Also I was told that the top side engine mount is cracked (Dog bone). Is that neccessary to replace and also is it expensive? By the way the car had 186,753 miles on it when I purchased it. Not sure if it was a good idea. I just took a chance.

What causes 2000 Lincoln contineal check transmission light to come on?

First of all check your Trans fluid level, some times the computer will say its at an ok level when its not. Then take it to 3 trans shops for an estimate, these shops are notorious for ripping you off. Good luck

2000 Lincoln Continental check engine soon light is on. What is this a warning for?

It means there is a sensor bad or related to one of them, need to scan it, which some parts stores do for free and thay can tell you what it says and figure it out from there. if the check engine light flashes it means ther is a misfire condition that would be your first start to do.....

I have a 2000 Lincoln C with a 4.6 engine. This

I think you need transmission fluid serviced with Mercon V from a Mercury dealer. I think the friction shoes in the torque converter are "Chattering" at lock up.

Try driving the car with O/D off and then w/o going into 4th gear. Leave it in 3. See if the vibration is gone.

Looking for a DIY manual for a 2002 Lincoln Continental.I have already checked with Haynes. They don't have one. Any reccomendations?

I refer to the Chilton one at local library. Not too good on FWD with large engine since book there it covers Tarus and town car as well. The CD referenced below sounds a lot like a 2000 Ford workshop information CD that includes a lot of the same information on the Lincoln Continental. I purchased it on eBay. I mostly use it and library book to educate myself before I go talk to a service adviser. I only do the basics myself.

2000 lincoln continental stuck

Make sure you have brake lights. This is were the shifter solenoid gets it's signal from to get it out of gear.
One thing you can try is turn the igntion switch towards the run postion stopping just short of activating the electronics. Then try and move shifter to neutral then you can start it and out it into gear so you can drive it to get it fixed.
