Loud lifter knock

Some vehicles have a tendency to start getting a lifter tap, when the engine's oil level comes down to the point where it is a quart or more low. I suggest you check the oil level, top it off if necessary, and check to see if it isn't due for an oil change. I would try the heaviest oil recommended for that vehicle..

I have an 89 dodge d 50 pick up and there is a loud ticking in the engine my buddy says its a possible that its a valve tapping does anyone know where I can find a diagram of the valves so I can figure out...

You say D50 do you mean D150 if it is a V8 one lifter is making noise. Lifters are pumped up with oil so they act like a solid piece of metal if there is a little ware in the drive train the lifter can compensate. The lifter has a little dirt in it so it will not fill with oil.Change your oil and filter with good oil and add something to clean the lifter like sea foam.If it keeps making noise find out what side and which end of the valve cover. Remove valve cover have someone start the engine touch the top or the rocker arms by the push rods and you will feel the loose one. Unbolt rocker arm assembly pull out push rod run a magnet down the hole and pull the lifter out. If it won't come out because you didn't change the oil enough and there is a ridge around the bottom buy a tool or rent that goes down the hole and spreads to lock into the lifter slide the hammer bar up the tool it should come out. If you were really really bad at changing the oil the lifter could be mushroomed out on the bottom or the cam wore a hole in the lifter then you have to remove the intake manifold to get it out. Take the new lifter put it into a can of oil and push down on the top a few times to fill it with oil then drop it in and put back together

How can you adjust the lifters 1993 ford festiva

this car uses hydraulic lifters. If your lifter is tapping, make sure the nut is tight on the rocker arm. If it still taps, the lifter has failed and must be replaced.

I have a loud tapping valve can i use an additiveto fix problem

If you have a hydraulic lifter that is sticking, sometimes marvel oil or lucas engine additive will help. If the noise is caused by wear at the rocker pivot or the lifter/camshaft, it will not. No chemical can replace a worn part.

What would make my lifters tap while ideling at a red light ? sometimes the tap is loud and sometimes you hardly hear it.

It sounds like tired hydralic lifters to me. If the noise was constant it would be a worn out oil pump instead

Loud ticking noise when engine is cold sometimes goes away sooner then other times.

The best cure without removeing the engine or head is to change your oil and use a 0w30 synthetic oil in the engine,if this gets rid of the noise then your good to go,if not you need to replace the lifters or have a blockage in an oil gallery.Try new oil first, the later will not be cheap to repair.

93 festiva engine valve noise

You would have to read the tech manual to see if they are just shims or if the are a hydraulic type lifter. They would actually pump up with oil and hold slight pressure on the cam so there would not be the tappet noise associated with a solid lifter cam. Odds are they got gummed up and started tapping on you. Hopefully you marked the cylinders they came off of and placed them back in the same location on the cylinder head as originally installed. You don't want premature cam failure because of the mismatched wear patterns on the lifters. Good Luck, RAC

It could be you are low on oil;using the wrong oil;a possible loose connecting rod,or,maybe a bad or stuck lifter.
