Alighning or adjusting the distributer will affect the timing. On most chevy models there's a screw or bolt with a triangler plate at the base of the distributer just loosen this bolt and you can adjust it. You may have to remove the bolt and plate for the distributer to turn. You may want to make sure you have a distibuter first 2002 models may not have them, i would think for that year model they would have converted to coil packs.
Did you have it out and want to make sure you put it in right or do you just want to set the timing?
If you just want to set the timing, then you just loosen the bolt that goes through the slot on the distributor a bit then turn left or right to advance or ****** the timing till you set it right then just tighten the bolt but be sure not to move the distributor whilst tightening.
If you need to make sure you've put it in right after having it out then just let me know and i'll tell you how.
