Question about 1993 Chevrolet S-10

1 Answer

I have a 1993 4.3 6 cyl chevy S-10, it starts fine when you give it a little gas then when you start driving it 5 to 8 minutes later it is spitting and sputtering misfiring and backfiring give it a little gas and she will pick up and go get to a certain speed she starts again and not to mention bucks like a horse! the plugs have been changed the wires are good I did have to replace the distributor, cap and rotor 5 years ago and this problem seems to act like it did before when I had to change all of that, could it be needing it again? or knock sensor or crank sensor or pickup coil or distributor module?

5 years ago for cap & rotor???? It sounds like it's in dire need of a complete tune up - plugs. wires, cap, rotor, all fluids & filters ESPECIALLY fuel filter. I'd start there and run a good fuel system cleaner through it. Do your tune ups more frequently like every 30K - not wait 5 years!

Guru(?) if it aint broke don't fix it..isn't that saying and she has lasted this long and in great shape for me doing my own tune ups and apparently you didn't read..plugs were just changed the best you can get..plug wires are great (they are lifetime) oil changes and etc, I even went so far as to put in a new fuel pump and filter..she only gets the best, it is just this problem started up 2 days ago and yes changed the plugs again..she is treated like a gem why? because it was the last gift my Mother gave me before she died of an unkown cancer and no she never smoked or drank in her life so some guru and I come from a family of car oh and I started doing this with my Father at age 6 he didn't want his DAUGHTER to be stranded somewhere not knowing how to repair or do tuneups at age 10 this girl was changing tires with supervision, I was just needing an actual REAL answer and help with pinpointing the problem so you are no solution or help to the problem.

Lifetime wires??? Try testing them w/an ohm meter - anything over 8k ohms per foot - "their lifetime has ended". Re tune up - ain't broke don't fix it - tell me that when you're stranded. Preventative maintenance is a must. If you did all the maintenance on a regular schedule you wouldn't be replacing parts randomly.

1991 chevy c1500 stalling

Usually a problem with a dirty throttle body or a faulty idle air control valve. The computer controls idle speed by regulating how much air enters the intake thru the valve.

1993 ford mustang starting problem

Do a fuel pressure bled down test, it should not loose more than 5 PSI after shut down, if it does then the fuel pump is defective.

Engine quit when stopped at stop light. Acted as if it was choking then died. Tried restarting. Turns over strong, no start. Thought maybe no gas. Added gas after about 30 minutes. Started first try....

Sounds like the fuel pump is going out. Replace the filter first, as it's only $10. If that doesn't fix it, then it's probably the pump, which is $250.

Sounds to me like your choke is malfunctioning. Take the cover off of your carb when cold and see if the choke (top buttefly valve) is closed. It should be when cold. (you do not say what year truck you have so I am guessing as to the answer)

Suburban stalls while driving after running for 15-30 minutes. After letting it sit for 5-10 min it runs fine for another 5-10 minutes, then starts doing it all over again.

a bad crank sensor can cause this. shuts off while going down road, and will start about 10 min, later with no problems runs fine until it quits again. hope this helps,

1992 Roadmaster Estate 5.7 liter dies for no reason.

You need to have someone with a scantool check the sensors. I've had coolant temp sensors read -43F which tells the computer to dump more gas essentially flooding the engine.
