When I check the voltage at the plug from the integrated brake control on my 07 silverado it pulses from 2v to 3.5v and the brakes won't come on. Is there something I am missing, or is this connected to the general GM engineering problem

The reason why this does not work is because the brake control unit is designed to look for an inductive load(magnet coil). A elec/hyd pump assembly typically has a resistance value of anywhere from 400 to 1700 ohms. Most trailer wiring circuits are roughly 2.0 ohms or less. The control will not activate due to the fact it is not a designated trailer resistance for the brake control unit. At this point I have not heard of any suggested fix for this problem besides not ordering the GM control. Buy the Tekonsha P3 and it will take care of your problems.

The GM Integrated Brake Controller seems to be a real problem when it comes to electric ove rhydraulic actuators (what were their engineers thinking?). I have talked with representatives from Carlisle (which is incompatible with a half dozen or so controllers by their count) and Dexter (whose ONLY incompatibility seems to be the GM controller). I have been told there is no solution to the incompatibility for those 2 actuators. I just got off the phone with the Titan Tire Corporation tech support (1-800-832-8781). I was given a couple of part numbers for adapters they claim will allow the GM integrated controller to work with their Electro/Hydraulic actuator. I have not tried their product with the company's '08 Chevy Silverado, I'm just passing on what I was told. There may be other manufacturers of actuators I haven't found yet, so there may be a better solution (other than GM using a little forethought with their designs!).

Location of Brake Pressure Sensor on 2009 2500HD Chev Silverado. This is what tells the factory Integrated Trailer Brake Controller how much you are applying the vehicle brakes.

GM also offers a built-in trailer-brake controller on 2009 half-ton trucks. Like Ford's, when activated, the truck's ABS brakes reduce gain to the trailer brakes. In GM trucks, however, the controller gain adjustment and hand control are on the left side of the steering column. It's all electronic, not hydraulic, This link has an article you may find interesting Trailer Brake Controllers What Wrong and What Right PickupTrucks com News

How should I prepare my durango to pull a 24 foot travel trailer...what class of hitch, do I need in-board electric trailer brake controls, etc.?

Hi Frank,
I have a Durango 2000 and pull a 24 foot ski boot loaded with equipment. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't try towing anything without the trailer brakes connected. I purchased the Titan Trailer brakes setup and they've never failed me once. The hitch: just make sure you get the right towing capacity for your travel trailer. I have the 5.9 liter engine, which allows up to 6500 pounds of towing capacity. Your owners guide will explain how many based on engine size.
Good Luck, and happy traveling.

How do you find out if you have the wires for a tow package? Trying to hook up a trailer with electrical brakes.

The wires would be secured under the rear of the truck. However trailer wiring is only for trailer lighting. Electric trailer brakes require a trailer brake controller.

1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo is engine fan belt driven or electric?

The radiator cooling fan used on the 4.0L engine is
an hybrid fan design. The hybrid fan system consist
of a low speed viscous driven mechanical fan and a
electrical fan.
The hydraulic fan used on vehicles equipped the 4.7L engine, replaces both the electric fan and the engine driven mechanical fan. The hydraulic cooling fan is integral to the fan shroud and is located between the radiator and the engine. The power steering pump supplies the hydraulic fluid and pressure to rotate the cooling fan blade, while the electrical part of the fan is controlled by the JTEC. The hydraulic fan drive (motor) consists of the three major components:
- Steering flow control valve
- Fan control valve
- Two stage G-rotor hydraulic drive
The hydraulic fan and drive is not serviceable.
Therefore any failure of the fan blade, hydraulic fan
drive or fan shroud requires replacement of the fan
module because the fan blade and hydraulic fan drive
are matched and balanced as a system and servicing
either separately would disrupt this balance.

What is the towing capacity of a 2005 Seneca? And what gives? It refuses to recognize my make and model so I had to post it under Sonata.

Hey, we all make mistakes. Elantra I have head of. The 2005 Hyundai Elantra can tow 3.086 Lbs if the trailer you are towing is equipped with trailer brakes. If the trailer is not equipped with trailer brakes it can only tow 1,000 lbs. This is quite allot for a sedan. Remember do not tow over 1,000 lbs without trailer brakes and that includes the weight of the trailer. You will never be able to stop it and it may jackknife.

Electric trailer brakes are kicking out due to anti-lock brakes

The ABS will shut off the trailer brakes if it detects a problem. It sounds as if the problem is in the ABS control unit, or the trailer brakes may not be grabbing hard enough causing the trailer to push the truck when you are attempting to stop. This sometimes can be corrected by adjusting the gain up on the trailer brakes.
