The radiator fan can be turned easily by hand when engine is iff this is belt driven by a pully system should i be able to turn it by hand the car is a hyundai galloper the year is1998

The fan is connected to the pulley by a clutch system. It can be turned when the car is off. This is set up the way it is as to limit the speed of the fan, when the engine speed is very high. The fan will only turn at a set speed because of the fan clutch. In other words, it's normal.

Car runs hot when idling


Make sure the electric cooling fan(s) for the radiator are working.
TEST- anytime the air conditioning compressor kicks in, so should the cooling fans. Locate the a/c compressor on the engine, it's belt driven. Start the car and with the engine running observe the face of the belt pully on the compressor while an assistant turns on the a/c in the car (defrost feature on your heater control will also cycle on the compressor). You'll be looking to see that the front of the compressor pully starts spinning when the a/c or defrost is engaged. When that pully starts spinning the radiator fans are supposed turn on at the same time. If you see the compressor engage but the fan doesn't you have a blown cooing fan fuse, bad fan motor or a bad fan motor relay. If there is something wrong that your compressor isn't engaging in a/c or defrost and the fuses are ok, you're going to have to check the fan motor and relay by different means. You can disconnect the wiring plug to the fan motor. This is where you see if you can spin the fan blades by hand. It should spin very easily. If it is hard to spin or is siezed up, you found the problem. If the blades spin easily- direct jump current to the fan motor off the battery. If the fan doesn't work, replace it. If the fan works, check the relay. Locate the fan relay and look for another relay in the panel that is EXACTLY like it. WE WANT- another relay that is exactly the same BUT NOT critical for engine or a/c operation. We also want to know that whatever feature this candidate relay supplies power to is verified as functional. Swap the relays. If the fan still doesn't engage, check the function that you borrowed the relay from and verify THAT works with your original a/c relay in it. If you lost that function, try the proceedure with a 3rd relay if possible. Again check and recheck functions you borrowed the relay from. If you still get nothing, put the relays back to original placement. If you still are getting nothing from the fan and the other 2 functions, then the panel is toasting relays and you need either run the problem down or get the car into a professional. Now- if the fan won't engage but the other functions that you borrowed relay(s) from are still operational, we're going to give the relays a passing grade and it would seem you've got an electrical issue that, again, you need to run down or defer your efforts to a professional. When my BMW 745i ,2005 is started,its makes a noise simmilar to the fan belt at the right hand side of the engine .Before ,this noise used to dissapear after the engine had been running for about 5 ...


This could be a problem with any of the accessories that are belt driven. The most likely culprit, though, in my experience, would be an idler pulley bearing. I generally test for this be removing the serpentine belt and starting the car (only leave running long enough to check for noise!). If no noise, suspect one of the belt-driven items. Check each accessory by hand, turning the pulley of each manually. If any feel "gritty" or do not turn easily, suspect that item. Each can be functionally tested individually, but that is beyond the scope of the question

Air conditioner comes on comes out hot


the belt driven aircondisioning unit is located under the hood. there are usualy metal lines coming off of it and one should have a valve in it ...looks like a tire,air valve. when car is running, turn the AC on. the unit has a two part clutch that the belt will turn. when the AC is off...the pump or compressor will engage and the hole belt driven piece will rotate when the AC button is on. , when it is off....or not getting power to the clutch , the pully will spinn but the inside clutch will not.

iff the unit engages and turns when the AC is turned on, and still blows hot air, then you may have a leak in your refrigerant line. iff it dosnt engage, then check your fuses .if everything is good to go..then it is mostlikly a vacume issue located in the dash behind the AC switch and display that moves the vent from hot to cold....

Which cooling fan is the primary on a 99 jeep grand cherokee ???


The main cooling fan on this 1999 jeep cherokee, the main fan all depends.

These jeeps come with diffrent fan set ups. Here are a few, the first may be a fan driven off the motor by a fan belt and a another fan which is electric. the primary fan used for cooling is the fan that runs off the engine with a belt. the other electric fan is more the air conditioning system, this fan is used for cooling the condensor mainly. the engine driven fan is for the cooling system.


Another system fan set-up on these jeeps would be the motor driven fan by belt with another electric fan in front off it, the diffrence between the first and this one is that the first fan system is side by side and this one is set-up one in front of the other but the concept is the same, the fan driven by the engine is mainly for the cooling of the engine coolant and the electric fan is for air conditioning cooling.

In both set-ups the electric fans also help the cooling system but are mainly used for the help in cooling when the a/c is turnned on, the a/c condensor builds up heat the same as the radiator does, one fan is unable to cool both the radiator and the condensor, this is why some cars have two fans.

Symptoms of a cracked head


First of all, don't "disable" the thermostat, It is an important part of the cooling system. Without it, you could crack the cylinder head from coolant boil-over! Ok, the most obvious sign of a cracked/warped head, or gasket failure is white smoke at the tail pipe, air bubbles in the cooling resivoir, milky, thick, coffee with cream colored oil, or external coolant leaks. If you just have an overheating problem, you should investigate the cooling system first. Check the fan(s), there may be a belt driven and an electric fan for your truck, make sure they both are operating. (turn the ac on with the engine warmed up) Check that when at operating temperature, shut the engine off and make sure the belt driven fan has resistance when you turn it by hand. If it turns and spins freely, replace it. Flush your radiator with a good coolant flush chemical and follow the directions. When flushing, look for water flow in the radiator cap. Replace that thermostat with a new one! replace the coolant cap also. Check for debris on the radiator fins like leaves, plastic bags, mud and bugs.

How did you know when the cooling fans are not working


You may have one conventional belt-driven fan with a thermal clutch and the other electric or, both could be electric on your car.
The cooling fan that operates during non-AC operation (just a running engine) if electric, will be controlled by a thermal switch in the lower radiator tank and may not turn on at all unless the engine is warmed up. The belt-driven fan should be turning at some speed all the time if the engine is running and at much higher speed with a hot engine.
The fan that cools mostly when the AC is operating won't run under normal operation but may turn on in hot weather (or when the engine is under heavier loads) even without the AC operating.
Checking them would require having a warmed-up engine and the AC turned on. Both fans regardless of type should be turning then.

remove drivers wheel then plastic wheel arch then put jack under engine and remove the engine mount then take off fan belt and timing belt cover mark your two top cam pullys and the crank pully then remove your belt and tensioner put new belt and tensioner on making sure all your marks line up then put on the crank pully and turn engine over twice by hand using a ratchett on the crank pully bolt if it turns over and your marks still line up put it all back together and start the car
