Question about 1991 Pontiac Firebird

1 Answer

I just bought 1991 Firebird Formula, and while working on the driver side door I noticed that the original owner had cut the wires that lead to the car for the power windows and power locks. I need to repair the connection. Does anyone know the Gauges for the wires?

Use 14/16 guage multistrand automotive wire (red, black, green, blue) and crimped **** end connectors.

Ok thank you I appreciate it

Are all of the wires that are wrapped together the same gauge? Some look a little larger, but it just could be my imagination.

It's not your imagination. If they are a bit larger you could use 12 gauge on the big ones to be safe. (the connectors are yellow)

Spark plug gap size for 1991 formula firebird

See if you still have the Vehicle Emission Control Information label (the VECI label) under the hood on some radiator support member, probably. The spark plug gap is listed on it.

Change the coolant sensor, they are faily cheap and usually easy to get to. They are also prone to failure on the early years of fuel injection.

Hood pins on a 1991 Pontiac Firebird

Find the point on the radiator support where the pins will be located.Be sure there isn't anything underneath to drill through.Measure from the fender to the center point of the hole location, and measure from the front fascia(edge where the front edge of the hood meets the body)to the center point of the hole location.Use these measurements to mark the hole on the hood.Repeat for the other side.MEASURE TWICE DRILL ONCE.

My turn signal lights wont work on my 95 firebird formula

Go under the dash on the drivers side, and locate the two flasher stat units. These are small round aluminum 'cans'. They plug in, and have flat blades on the bottom. (You of course won't see these flat terminal blades until you unplug them)

One is for the turn signals. One is for the four way flashers. I can't tell you which one is which.

Past this point, check all the grounds for the turn signals. The wiring harness at the front will have one, or two leads, (Wires), coming out that bolt directly to metal. Either sheet metal for the car, or to the frame. These leads have flat, round terminal ends on them, with a hole in the middle of the terminal.

The lead's terminal end bolts can work loose causing a bad ground, and/or, there could be corrosion in-between the terminal end, and the area of metal it bolts to. If so, use sandpaper, and clean the terminal end, plus the area of metal it bolts to.

There are ground leads, (Or lead), that come out of the rear wiring harness also. Check these.

Still no?
Then your turn signal bulb sockets have corrosion in them. This causes a bad ground.

You may be able to use a rolled up piece of sandpaper, and clean the socket.
(Also touch up the lead, {LED. As in the metal lead}, contact point in the middle of the socket. This is for the Positive connection, but it doesn't hurt to clean it while you're there.

After this is the turn signal switch in the steering column.
(My money is on a bad flasher unit)
