I would replace the solenoid.

Try jumping it, sounds like the battery can be dead. But there is a solenoid on the firewall I believe the left side inner fender (in the engine compartment) you can turn the ignition on and jump the two leads with a screwdriver and see if the motor turns over. Remember this is a huge motor with high compression and the glow plugs have to fire to start. Takes a lot of juice to get it going (thats why it has 2 batteries). Make sure you have charged batteries. If not charge/jump the truck. The starter can only be tested off the truck, a solenoid if bad only cost a few bucks ($20-$30) but they don't fail too often

My 99 mitsubishi galant won,t start battery is brand new and it still won't start it clicks like the battery is dead I even tired jumping starting land it still won't start


either you have a bad connection to your battery or,, you have a bad starter. no other solution. if it clicks when you try to start it and the batterys fully charged,you're getting fire to the starter and it's trying to start,but the starter bendix isn't kicking out.which means it's a bad starter. thank you for choosing fixya.com

I dont have a diagram, but that recently happened to me on a 02 GMC Envoy. The problem was that 2 of the wires connected to the starter were making contact with eachother. Make sure none of them are touching. Hope this helps. Good luck

You could try jumping the relay mounted on the fender carefully with a screwdriver accross the terminals to see if the relay is defective.

If everything else on your vehicle works, the first thing I would do would be to take the starter off and have it tested. If you are jumping the poles on the solenoid and nothing is happening, the problem is most likely either a short between the solenoid and the starter, or the starter itself. Also, if the starter is loose, it can loose it's ground to the motor.

Replaced starter on f350 7.3l wont crank nopower


There should be a starter relay up by the battery on the inner fender, right side of the vehicle. There is also a starter solenoid on the starter, correct? I'm going to ask if you have it in park, neutral or the clutch pushed in, if so still no crank? On the starter relay, on the fender, there are 2 large teminals and 1 small. With vehicle in park or neutral and brake set pull the small wire off and using a jumper lead put 12V to the small terminal, the engine should crank. If so now check and see if you have power to that small wire when you turn the key to start. If not it could be the neutral safety switch, clutch switch (manual trans) or the ignition switch. There is also a fusable link that comes off the starter relay that could have blown. Do you have power to the ignition, do the lights come on, on the dash, when you turn the key on? If so the fuseable link is probably OK. If it don't crank by jumping the starter relay the problem is between the relay and starter. That relay sends a signal to the starter solenoid.
