Question about 2008 Chrysler 300

1 Answer

I have a 92, 6- Cylinder Chrysler 300M. Error codes say misfire is #5 Cyl, and "E" Coil Pack(=#5 coil). Have changed #5 coil and all plugs. The catylitic converter on psgr side is getting red hot, I was told that means it's still working (for now). Car is running very rough at all times, and has now developed a loud knock which seems to be coming from cyl 5 using a piece of hose to listen. 3 mechanics have 3 diff guesses. I am thinking of changing the injector next. It's at another shop rite now, they plan to perform a compression test in the morning. The knock is intermittent, but mostly there. Has anyone had the same experience or direct experience so I can avoid anymore guessing from others?

Sounds like a lean misfire. The injector may be clogged or defective causing the cylinder to run very hot. A compressoin test is a good idea in case the exhaust valve is burning up. Hope it turns out OK, Don T

What are trouble codes P0135 and P0305

135 is an O2 heater problem. Most times it is the O2 sensor. some times the plug. 305 is a number 5 cylinder misfire. Could be a coil pack, plug wire, plug or the cylinder. My guess is the coil pack.

2004 Sorento began with code P0305, cyl #5 misfire. Inspected and replaced plugs, wires, and coil pack on cyl #2. Repair shop told me cyl #5 injector bad so they replaced. Still has misfire.I suggeste

If you had code P0305, I don't know why they would have done anything to the #2 cylinder but if they have already replaced the plugs, wires and injector; here are a few more items to check:
1) Check connections from ECM. Look for any corrosions or bent/broken pins.
2) Check the fuel line pressure
3) Check the engine compression
4) And if the above are good, then you will probably have a defective ECM

Number five plug not firing

I'm assuming this is a DIS(distibutorless ignition system). If it is,the most common cause is a defective coil pack. Each coil will fire a pair of cylinders together on 4 and 6 cylinder engines(one "waste" spark, one to ignite the mixture).Try swapping the wires at the coil pack to see if the misfire follows the coil tower,or the same cylinder misfires(keep in mind that a check engine light means you will have to clear the code to get the computer to feed that cylinder fuel before you start it up again). If the other cyl on the pack now misfires(i believe 1+5 are on the same pack on a Ford engine),then the coil is bad(spark is "leaking"to ground). If the same cyl still misfires, try swapping a wire+plug from another cylinder.

Sport Wrangler 6 cyl. Engine lite flashing. Diagnostic tool lists code PO305. I looked it up and it states misfire in cyl #3 & 5. How do I fix this?

Check the plugs, wires and coil pack for these two cylinders. Most lilkely it is the coil pack, they work for 2 cyclinders at a time. cylinder motors use 3 and 8 cyl moters use 4 of these. If your und=sure where the coil pack is, follow it backwards from the spark plugs.

My car was hooked to a machine and it said the number 2 cylinder is misfiring. What do I need to check out?

First thing is the #2 spark plug. Pull it and see how it looks. Is it burned up? is it black and oily? Is it wet and smells like gas?

If it is wet and/or smells like gas (most likely problem), either the spark plug wire or the coil pack is bad. I am not familiar with the 300M so you need to see which you have- either a spark plug wire going to a distributor cap or a coil pack that plugs directly into the spark plug.

If you have a coil pack you can swap it with another cylinder and see if the problem also moves, which will prove that it is bad. If your Chrysler uses spark plug wires going to a distributor, I recommend changing the entire set because if one failed, others may follow suit. Make sure that you install each one at a time so they connect exactly how they came out and you do not compromise the firing order (just in case, check the underside of your hood for the emissions sticker, which will have the firing order information).

If you pull the plug and it looks burned up, or black and sooty, you have another problem that will require further looking into. Keep us informed on FixYa and we are always glad to help!

My Chrysler 300m is misfiring on the 4 cyl. Check engine on.

hello, The 300m's all have individal coil packs for each cylinder. They pretty much sit right on top of the spark plug and have a long boot that goes down into the head onto the spark plug. If you have not replaced the one on cylinder #4 I would do so and that will probably fix your problem. It is held down by 2 torx screws. They are around $85 bucks at the parts store. Hope this helps
