2001 mercury sable idling high and thrusting won't come to a complete stophave to put it in park

Sounds like a broken vacuum line,Donna. Makes the computer go crazy.Check
all vacuum hoses.A leak that bad you should be able to hear.
It might be something else, but I'd check vacuum hoses and connections first. (:^) don-ohio

I'd have the alternator checked. when the car is running, all power is coming off the alternator, not the battery. Sounds like you have a weak alternator, or make sure the belt running it is tensioned correctly, and still in good condition.

Hello sir. i have a 2001 mercury sable LS. i have been having trouble getting power when going uphill or on/ off highway ramps. i had a new fuel filter put on. the same factory filter was still on. this...

Have your fuel pressure and volumn checked. Also have your vehicle checked for an exhaust restriction. An exhaust restriction can cause a lack of engine manifold vacuum, which is what this model uses to move certain functions of your climate control. No engine vacuum, no door movement, resulting in lack of air movement through your cabin vents. This is not for sure, but it's where I would start looking. Exhaust backpressure testing for a restricted exhaust system is neither difficult nor costly. Unfortunatly, a clogged cat converter may well be quite costly. Also, if your coverter is clogged, be sure to have a complete evaluation of your engine's performance, as misfiring etc. can cause it to happen again. Good luck, and please let me know what you find!

The problem started with uphill acceleration. Car started stuttering. It got steadily worse to where it did the same on passing. Then the idle got rougher. Any ideas ? 2001 Mercury Sable 24 valve .

may need a tune up, if that does not fix the problem then it may be in the fuel system, fuel filter injector lines or pump. I would start with a tune up as this should fix the problem. Hope this helps Tim

I have a 2001 mercury sable ls and the bearing in one of the pulleys has gone out. how do i replace it?

The idle pulley is the device that you move to take the serpentine belt off and on. The bearing is the Ford alternator bearing, but you will have to press it on and off the pulley (wheel that has a smooth surface pushing against the belt). You can get a replacement pulley/bearing and bolt it back on the adjuster.

2001 mercury sable lopes at idle, misses on acceleration adn engine light blinks. Computer logs misfire on cylinder1 and 5. Possible fixes? Changed plugs ran ok two weeks.

CHECK THE COILPACKS. YOU MAY HAVE A COIL THAT IS NOT PRODUCING A HOT ENOUGH SPARK ON TWO CYLINDERS. I HOPE THIS HELPS. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA.
