I would recommend that you either rebuild the caliper, or replace it. It sounds like you have some bad seals.

I have a 2005 Chevy Equinox LS and the drivers side front brakes keep locking up. Can I get some help with this problem. None of the lights come on when this happens.


Most likely the brake hose to the caliper is bad. They deteriorate from the inside and clog up, not releasing the fluid. A way to check is raise that tire pump up the brakes, release the hose at the caliper, if the caliper releases, the hose is bad, if it doesn't the caliper is bad or you have no brake pads left and the piston can/is cocked a bit.

What would cause there to be no brakes what so ever even after replacing all the broken brake lines and bleeding them all on a 2003 Hyundai elantra?


if this has anti-lock brakes it may be the HCU(hydraulic control unit) may have air in it. it may have to be activated to get all the air out.

Rear passenger brake dosen't work


Are there two brake fluid reservoirs? And are both full? This would be a split-diagonal brake system-front driver and rear passenger are one brake system. Front passenger and rear driver are the other system. You have the one system working-the front passenger and rear driver side works. You will have to keep bleeding the rear passenger side and the front driver side-always start farthest from the master cylinder, but if that wheel just won't bleed air out, make sure the driver front is working and bleeds good. If all else fails, there are pressure bleeder kits available, I don't know the cost, but they work great. They are also a one man bleeding job, as I understand.

Driver side front brake keeps locking up we have changed the Caliper rotor and pads 3 times now, what do I look at next


Your MOST LIKELY problem is a defective brake hose. The hoses are made up of several layers. There is a rubber outer shell and a steel or kevlar reinforcement and a silicone-based inner lining that will resist the brake fluid and prevent the brake fluid from eating the other layers. What happens is that the inner lining tears loose inside and acts like a "heart valve" The liner will expand when dthe pedal is applied and allow fluid to be pushed into the caliper under pressure. However, when the brake pedal is released, the hose collapses and prevents the fluid from returning to the master cylinder.

The way to diagnose this condition is like this:

Raise and support the vehicle and remove the tire on the side that keeps destroying brake pads.
start the engine and press ******* the brake pedal and then release the brake pedal.
Turn the engine off and check to see if the caliper has the wheel locked up.
If it does, then open the bleeder screw on the caliper. The fluid should squirt out under pressure and the caliper will release the wheel. If it does, replace the hose.

I have a 1999 chevy k3500. the front drivers side break caliper locked on the rotor as if im stepping on the breaks. i have replacer the caliper with a Napa rebuilt one, and replaced thr ABS system with...


You might have a collapsed brake hose going to that side. It will be the rubber line from the caliper to the frame. You cant tell by looking at it but the inside of it might have collapsed not allowing the fluid to flow back, and only allowing it in. Ive seen this happen before.

1994 GMC pickup front brakes are sticking. Replaced brake pads, rotors and calipers. What next?


By "sticking" I am assuming that you mean that the brakes are staying applied (calipers are not releasing)and burning the brake pads and rotors up.

The most common cause of this is brake hoses.

The hoses that connect your calipers to the steel brake lines have an inner lining and a reinforced outer "shell". sometimes the inner lining tears loose from the outer shell inside the hose. (It cannot be seen by "looking" at the hose.) The inner lining then starts to act similar to a "heart valve" where it allows fluid to be pushed down into the caliper, then collapses inside the hose, blocking the fluid from returning to the master cylinder when the pedal is released. This can happen just because of the age of the hose, but is more commonly caused by someone allowing the caliper to hang by the hose while replacing the brake pads without using anything to support the weight of the caliper.

To diagnose this condition, raise and support the vehicle and remove the wheels. Make sure that the transmission is in "Park" (Automatic Transmission) or "Neutral" (Manual Transmission) and apply the parking brake. Then start the engine and apply the service brake. (Press HARD on the pedal) Shut the engine off, release the service brake and open the bleeder screws on the calipers. If brake fluid squirts out of the bleeder screw under pressure, then the hoses are the cause of the calipers not releasing.

No fluid come out when bleeding brakes drivers side front


Brake rubber flex line could be collapsed,,or kinked,,,i suggest loosening of the line at the master cylinder distribution block (this will give you the ability of loosening off one line at a time,,and have some one push the brake pedal down,,if you see fluid at this point then you know it has to be the line or the caliper.
if you get no pressure from the distribution block then its the master cylinders fault

Front brakes lock up


I have a 2000 Mercury Villager doing the same thing Lf wheel drags after it gets hot, problem was abs modulator, after I replaced Lf caliper, brake hose etc it still was dragging abs modulator has filters in it that get clogged and will not release.
