Question about 2002 Mazda Tribute

I can't find the location of the DPFE (EGR pressure sensor). I've already replaced the solenoid, but can't find this sensor anywhere.

    going to replace all of them and dont know what part goes where and which ones I need to order or find used

Usually mounted on driver side,on a bracket over exhaust manifold or on a bracket on intake manifold. One of the 2 hoses that attach to it goes directly to egr valve. If you still cant locate it follow hose from egr valve it ends at sensor.

P0401 OBD-II Trouble Code - Insufficient EGR Flow
EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. It is part of the vehicle emmissions system, and is used to reduce combustion temperature and pressure to control Oxides of Nitrogen. There are generally three parts to the EGR system: the EGR valve, an actuator solenoid, and a differential pressure sensor EGR (DPFE). These things work together to deliver the correct amount of recirculation based on engine temperature, load, etc. The P0401 code means that OBD detected an insufficient amount of EGR.


Symptoms: You may notice drivability problems such as pinging (a.k.a. pre-ignition knock) when the engine is under load or the vehicle is at higher speeds. There may also be other symptoms.


A code P0401 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
The DPFE (differential pressure feedback EGR) sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced
There is a blockage in the EGR (tube), most likely carbon buildup
The EGR valve is faulty
The EGR valve may not be opening due to a lack of vaccuum


Possible Solutions: in fixing this code, it is quite common for people to just replace the EGR valve only to have the OBD code return. The EGR valve is not always the culprit.


Use a vacuum pump and pull the EGR valve open while monitoring engine RPM's & DPFE voltage. There should be a noticable difference in RPM's with the EGR open
Clean out the EGR valve and/or tubing to remove deposits
Check the voltage at the DPFE, compare to specified values (refer to a repair manual for your specific model)
Replace the DPFE sensor (with a good quality / OEM one)
Replace the EGR valve

upstream is considered the oxygen sensor for the right side exhaust manifold, before the catalytic convertor. Make sure the sensor's electrical connection is in good condition. On the sensor, test between the terminals with an multimeter/ohmmeter. You should see about 6 ohms at 68*F. If not, replace.

The reason your engine is doing that is because the sensor is failing in such a way that the computer is dumping in extra fuel when it isn't really needed. Then you get the black smoke.

I have a tropubleshooting code of P1405. On a ford Expedition 5.4l. Where do i fine the DPFE sensor (DPFE sensor upstream hose off or plugged.. aaECM detected EGR flow in a negative direction with aan


DPFE sensor failures are VERY COMMON on Ford vehicles. However, clogged EGR ports are also very common on 5.4L Ford engines. The DPFE sensor is located on the left side of the engine. It connects to two silicone rubber hoses that connect to the steel EGR tube coming from the back of the engine to the EGR valve. (See picture of the sensor below)

Another common failure is a DPFE sensor that has melted due to excessive exhaust back-pressure. If you find the DPFE sensor melted, suspect a restricted exhaust. (smashed tailpipe, clogged catalytic converter, etc..)

The fuel pressure is low and it wont move the code that it gave me was po1401 what does that mean

ON THIS VECHICLE APPLICATION THE DPPE EGR VALVE AND EVR SOLENOID ARE INTEGRATED INTO THE ESM ASSEMBLY.

I have a code po401


The P0401 is an insufficient flow code and is almost always caused by the DPFE sensor. This sensor measures the back pressure in the exhaust as is a more accurate way of determining EGR flow than the old EGR position sensors. When the EGR valve opens the exhaust back pressure changes and the DPFE sensor informs the processor of this information. If the sensor isn't reading a change when the EGR valve is turned on through the solenoid, it will throuw a p0401 code. The only true way to check this is to install a scan tool and measure the DPFE voltage. Normal DPFE voltage is approx. .9 volts at idle.
The DPFE sensor dealer part price is approx. $140 but you will find cheaper prices at an aftermarket parts store. Good luck.

I think that you need a new DPFE; first check it, you could also have something restricted. There are ports in the throttle body that can cause this as well. Check THIS LINK.

PO402 trouble code....how is this repaired


Exhaust gas recirculation flow excessive. First things to check is your vacuum hoses to egr position sensor (Dpfe sensor) Egr solenoid & egr valve. If they are off, melted or sucked in they need to be replaced. Usually a specific code will be set for that but not always. Of the three the dpfe sensor also known as egr position sensor is the most common & easiest to replace. Next in order is the egr solenoid. Lastly if it comes to changing egr valve make sure to clean all carbon build up in cavity that egr mounts to. They commonly plug up.

How to replace egr valve on 1995 crown vic 4.6. Valve is in hard place to get to.


On 1995 Crown Victoria the EGR valve is located at the rear of the engine compartment. While the attaching bolts can be gotten out with a little bit of a problem the egr tube that atteches the EGR valve to the right exhaust manifold is a pain. It is possible to do though. Here are the removal and installation instructions. If you are sure that the EGR valve is the reason for any check engine light then you can remove the battery cable for about five minutes to reset the light, but if the light is on for a differant reason then you just got rid of the code plus any freeze frame data that a shop could have used to diagnose the problem.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Label and disconnect the wiring harness from the DPFE sensor.
  3. Label and disconnect the vacuum hoses.
  4. Remove the mounting screws and remove the DPFE sensor.
To install:
  1. Position the DPFE sensor and tighten the mounting screws.
  2. Attach all necessary hoses and wiring to the sensor.
  3. Connect the negative battery cable.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Label and detach the vacuum hoses from the EVR solenoid.
  3. Detach the electrical connector from the solenoid.
  4. Remove the retaining hardware, and remove the solenoid.
To install:
  1. Position the solenoid and install the retaining hardware.
  2. Attach the main emission vacuum control connector and the wiring harness connector to the EVR solenoid.
  3. Connect the negative battery cable.

LOCATION:
drivers side of the engine bay, just under the intake manifold plenum where the throttle body bolts up! If you take the air snokel off you'll see it better! It has a remote mountted vaccum solenoid with a 2 wire connector going to it that you should be able to see near the throttle body.
Follow the hose from the solenoid down to the valve and you'll find it!
