If it weren't for you saying lower hose is cool, it would be a bad coolant temperature sensor. But it sounds like you have at least a very big air pocket in engine or the impeller on waterpump isn't turning.

I have a 1997 toyota tacoma that the heater works sometimes but not other times?

heater, totally dead.

1: blower working and blowing cold air ,

2: engine holds 180F or more all the time, HOLDS !! i use an IR pyro gun to do that as dash gauges suck.

3: heat lever bad, slipping or stuck (look)

4: some cars have no water valve, so use damper , it can stick closed.

if engine coolant was hot at heater failure we can work this easy.

yes< then is both heater hoses hot touch , fan on, engine hot.

see them as they enter fire wall, on both sides.?

you can in fact feel them on all cars.

ever do a real RAD cooling system flush , if not, BINGO, full of crap inside.

2002 toyota celica heater does not work

The thermostat should only restrict flow to the radiator.
If the heater system is working correctly, you should get flow from one of the heater hoses at all times.
Its possible you have air in the cooling system.

How do you fix a code#P0125 on a 1998 toyota 4 runner?insufficient coolent temp. for closed loop control?

first check radiator level if it is full and the heater is working good make sure temp gauge is functioning c orrectly it is most likely the coolant temp sensor but if this is a high milage vehicle and you have owned long time and never changed i would also replace thermostat and check plug to temp sensor forr good conections and good wires

After my 96 ram 1500 318c.u. gets up to temp. the temp gauge keeps going up. it never has over heated but i dont drive it very far. ive replaced upper and lower hoses, thermastat and radiator cap. Im lost?...

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. That would be my next guess. Maybe a bad coolant sensor. You might have a bad water pump as well. Make sure the fans are kicking on properly also. Check your radiator.

1992 Toyota 4Runner, overheats, radiator, upper and lower hoses and thermostat new. Water pump has about 10,000 miles. upper hose heats up, lower hose stays cold. Heater blows only cold air. Help

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. Have you checked to see if it is a coolant sensor? Have you checked to make sure the fans are coming on? Are you leaking coolant anywhere? Checked the cap?

is your fan clutch kicking in? It could be bad. crab the fan blade and try to move it back and forth. If it moves more than minimal you will need to replace your fan clutch.

96 tayota tacoma, 2.7 4 wd, the engine is hard to start when the engine is hot. When cold the engine starts fine.

1. air filter dirty. 2. bad engine ground. 3. fuel filter 4. loose connection in ignition system. 5.faulty idle control system.
