Question about 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 Club Cab
Check for a faulty valve body. there is a tech service bulletin for your problem. obtain a chilton's, or haynes repair manual specific to your truck, in the general maint. section you will find how to perform this operation. it is fairly simple. (if i can do it) adjust both bands then start/engage the reverse to see if this solves the problem. the TSB can be found on any internet site that features them. ex. type dodge ram tsb's and you will be on the right track. if this does not solve your problem, you could have a partially clogged trans coolant line as there is a check valve located within the return line that if it becomes clogged, will not allow fluid to enter the converter.

Have your transmission checked. i have seen so many time that all the gears will work but not reverse. it may have melted onto another gear not allowing it to move.
