Question about 1987 Porsche 944

1 Answer

1987 Porsche, 944 - stalls now and then after driving(2min or 60 min on hwy) and come to a stop. No spark... at times starts right back up, some times 15-30 minutes. If i keep the revs up (1200ish) i dont have the problem.. not a fuel issue (have checked). have changed coil and MAF(had a spare).

Theres spark--so I think your throtttle body or idle air needs cleanin--have it scanned with a data stream so you dont just throw parts at it

If you mean wheel bearings! You can check this by jacking up the wheel and grabbing the wheel top and bottom and moving it back and forth, if you feel movement then the bearings are worn!

Engine stalls as if out of gas

I had a problem like that. Turned out to be the DME relay. Very common problem on that model. Some say you should never leave your house without a spare. Part is cheap, $30. It is located in the fuse box. Try that first. All other problems will be more intrusive and cost more.
Good luck.

Car wont start .

You will not be able to hear the fuel pump on that model. First you have to determine if you get fuel and have spark. If it is a fuel problem, replace the DME relay first. Very common. They act up and fail without warning. Part is cheap and located in the fuse box. Next would be the fuel pump.
If it is spark related it may be the Flywheel Reference Sensors. There are two and the cost about $100 each.

Good Luck.
