I would suggest buying a product that you add to your gas when you fill up such as HEET.
It cleans your fuel system including your fuel injectors.
Just add it to a full tank of gas either before or after you fill up. One bottle treats up to 20 gallons of gasoline.

Water in the fuel tank.

The mechanic should have read the trouble code indicated by the check engine light. This will tell you where the problem is. It is possible that the oxygen sensor has been damaged by the water contamination.

BTW there are fuel drying agents sold, which can be added to the tank to bind any water left over.

1998 c1500 , code p300 , bad misfiring shortly after refueling , replaced plugs with no change , could it be bad gas ?? , also put in 3 bottles of injector cleaner that did not help

Probably water in the gas..., although its not common.. ... this problem should cure itself with your next tank of gas.. its not likely to be anything else..is your check engine light on?? have you refilled the tank with gas yet?
Injector cleaner is ok, however they make a gasline product for up north to evaporate water out of the gas tank because the water will create ice or slush in the tank in cold weather..
Methyl Cloride is what I used to use in Canada, in the winter to evaporate water out of the tank.
And maybe you have a lot of water in the tank.... when you take off the fuel filter, you will be able to see water beading up (a clear gasline hose which does not come with your car) will tell you all sorts of stories about water and how clean your gas is (on the gas tank side of your filter)...

Check engine light came on Tuesday afternoon, after I filled the gas tank on Monday afternoon. If the check engine light came on because of the gas cap not being on tight enough, do I just tighten the gas...

Check engine light might have came on because of loose gas tank cap, but it's a good idea to read the code and check if it's not something else, you can take your car to an Auto Zone and they read the code for free and tell you the cause also. But if you want to reset the check engine light, only way is to disconnect the battery terminals and let it set overnight, check engine light will be reset. Hope it helps and let me know if you need more advice. Please don't forget to rate the answer it helps with my ratings, thanks!

I have a gas leak at the tank. When I fill to full, gas leaks out

you might try looking to see if the filler tube is cracked and leaking if it is you could replace it and that will take care of the check engine lite depending on what code is being set

Check engine fuel light on has water in the fuel

To be on the cheap side will cost more than just draining your gas tank. **** IT OUT and analyze the gas. If you determine that it was good gas then put it back in the tank.

You can buy a **** hose (or 1/2 inch tubing) anywhere. Good Luck.

My 2005 will not allow me to pump gas when it is partially full. The pump kicks off and you can only allow gas to dribble in very slowly. Engine light is on as well

Could be that something is inside of the filler neck that is blocking part of the hose like when someone tries to steal your gas and breaks off the hose or leaves it in your tank. Sometimes the way the hose is routed causes it to take slowly. Engine light on means there is a code set that indicates a problem. You can go to one of the automotive stores and they will read it for free. Then come back on here and post what code it is.

Fuel Gauge reads empty, but tank IS full

the float in your gas tank seems to have water in it....water is heavier than gas, that's why gas floats on top of water....try putting something like HEAT in it to dry up the water in your tank....
