Hi

Try cleaning earthing or grounding points associated with the gauges. Clean main earth cable on battery and body too. See if it works.

Please get back to us if you have further query else please accept the suggestion.

Does the light work when you first turn the key? Does it come on? Check your ignition wires for arching also make sure you don't have a pool of oil in the spark plug tubes.

Instrument panel quits working at night when you turn the lights on,but when you open the door they come back on, close the door they go off again sometimes they work with no problem I checked for shorts...

wires deteriorate after years of opening and closing most likely this is between the door and the jamb =car body also instrument lights switches wear out and go faulty

1996 neon the speedometer and the fuel gage do not work also the backup lights do not work help

I have a similar issue with my 1997 Neon. My fuel gauge works, but my speedometer only works when it feels like it (jumps and then drops to zero) and once my whole cluster didn't come on. I've found this (http://forums.neons.org/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=118450) that I'm going to try when I get a soldering iron. Also I just discovered my reverse lights don't work either and it's not the bulbs, my best guess is the Neutral Safety Switch because I can start my car in drive and reverse.

I have a 1997 dodge neon and the speedometer does not work

Need to access the PCM with a scan tool and see if the vehicle speed sensor is still working. If it is, the problem is most likely in the instrument cluster and a junkyard part would be a good solution. If you have no VSS operation, that's your problem.

My Speedometer will not work?? On my 1996 dodge neon.

Does it work if you press on it?
You may have bad solder joints. One thing you could try is to carefully remove the gauge from the instruction panel. (Handle by the edges- avoid touching the components on the board.) Take a soldering iron and heat the 16 or so solder points until they melt and then allow to cool. Then reinstalled.

If you notice any loose sensors, retightening them may be enough.

Chilton/Haynes manuals will tell you how to pop the dash.

Here is a link to some info on soldering;
