It's the igntion module, it controls the coils. Affects starting and running, but not charging.

Bought coil pack for 92 pontiac bonneville connected wires underneath pack and spark plug wires now will not start at all

Did you replace all three coil packs or just one?
Did you get the spark plug wires in theproper order? (if not it may not start).
What wire did you connect underneath the coil pack (there are no wires under the coil pack). A wire bolts/plugs up to the side of the coil pack.

If there is a carbon track on the metal plate of the Coil Module on my 1994 Firebird 3.4, that I can't just completely scrub off, should I just replace the module?

you should be fine the streak was caused from voltage leaking from a coil pack and you replaced it and cleaned the plate it was the coil at fault not the module or the plate

Open the radiator cap slowly. Remove the drain plug located underneath the radiator with an adjustable wrench. Drain the fluid into a large container and dispose of it properly.

Hi i have a 1999 malibu w/randum misfireing cyl.1and3 check for spark it have very little spark alreaty change spark plug boots and coil pack harness still nothing could anyone help. thanks

well since you have already eliminated some possible causes now try the ignition module its the plate underneath the coil pack it is not a coil because then it would be misfiring on both cylinders to the coil and 1 goes with 4if this does not solve your problem only one thing left a bad computer causing this problem if you use a scanner you will see it actually is detecting the misfire through the injectors and that means the injector drivers in the computer are worn out. i have seen this several times and when you replace the computer it will have to be reprogrammed by a chevy dealer because the anti theft will not allow it to start . hope this helps you.

Change CoilPack ! 2 possibility, Defective coil or Defective Module ( The Plate underneath your Coil ) ! Would go for Coil before changing the plate ! You can get some at Junkyard or New !

3.3 stutters on acceleration

Try removing the coil packs, one at a time, and check for anything underneath them, old dried up grease, rust, etc. Those coils ground to the plate they mount to, and a lot of times, cleaning the plate and the bottom of the coil pack with some steel wool, and putting a smear od new dielectric grease on it will give you stronger cleaner spark, especially coming off idle. My son has the exact same car, and his started skipping, and the problem was that, a little rust started forming under the coils.

My car won't start

If it doesn't turn over check the battery cables and recharge the battery. If the battery is fully charged the cables are clean and tight and it still won't turn over, remove and test the starter. If it turns over but doesn't start you have to test for spark and fuel. Put some gasoline in an old clean dish soap bottle (or similar squirt bottle) and spray some gas past the throttle body plates, then reconnect the rubber air inlet duct to the throttle body and try starting. If it starts and then stalls, then the fuel pump isn't working. Check the fuse, relay and pump. If there's no spark check for power to the coils. No power means you have a problem with either the theft deterrent system, the ignition switch, crank position sensor or the computer. Look and see if the theft deterrent system light is on when your trying to start it. If the theft light is on then you need a new key or ignition cylinder. Sometimes wiping the key with some rubbing alcohol, and squirt some in the ignition cylinder (you can use lock de-icer as it's just alcohol) will make it easier for the key chip to be read. And if you have two sets of keys try the other set. Power to the coils but not starting may be from corrosion between the coil pack and the metal ground plate underneath it (remove the coils and clean the metal base with steel wool, spay some silicone or WD40 on the metal to prevent more corrosion before reassembling) If that doesn't work you'll need a new coil pack.

If you have fuel, replace the coil plate, you fried the diode in the coil plate causing it to not fire to test you need a spark plug detector light to see if your getting spark. If you just disconnect the wire and test it like the old spark plug system you will fry the coil or the diode in the plate, I forget what ford calls it, GM calls it a firing diode?? I think rusty memory.

CAR WONT CRANKS BUT WONT START

There is an easy way to determine wether your getting spark or not. Take a plug wire off a spark plug and put it next to a solid piece of metal like a bracket (somewhere you can see the end of the wire sparking) hold the wire behind the connection point, and crank the engine (have someone help). If you see a spark, you are getting spark to the plugs, but may still have a problem with the coil pack. There is only one way to find out. Take the coil pack off, and look at it. There are two types of coil packs - 1 piece and three piece (others may be possible) on a three piece, you will need to have each one tested to determine whether it's bad or not. On a one piece, pull it off and look at the glue like material underneath it, that part is called the modular (the coil pack(s) will screw down to it. The modular may be bad, and may be able to test it as well.
