Question about 1999 Nissan Quest

1 Answer

Several times our 95 Quest engine has died for no apparent reason while traveling. When this happens and we try to start it again it sputters and a groaning noise comes from somewhere under the vehicle possible near the fuel tank. It will start then cut out again each time with the groaning noise. After several attempts it will start again and run fine.

Same problem with my 95 quest. Stalled on the highway while traveling at about 45 mph, when I tried to restart it would start and stop immediately, like a vehicle running out of fuel. Let it sit for 20 minutes, it started right up and I drove 50 miles home with no further incidents.

The exact same thing happened to my 1995 Nissan Qwest Van. While climibing a mountain the engine stalled and then died. I pulled over the side and then tried to restart it without any success. Then I waited for about 15 minutes trying to use my cell phone to call for help. There was no cell phone signal and I was getting frustrated and then all of a sudden the engine started after about 15 minutes wait and I could drive home without any problem. In my driveway when I stopped the van and then again wanted to start it again the same problem and it started only after about a 15 mintues brake. I think the engine overheated and the onboard computer shuts it off to limit further damage. When it is sufficiently cooled down only then the computer lets it start again. I am not sure though. I experienced one similar incidence about 11 years ago when I was driving a big Ryder van and the engine stopped working on a downhill. I could only get it started after about 15 or 20 minutes when the engine cooled down. At that time however, just before shutting the trucks display read something like "engine shutting off. Check engine". Very strange message indeed. Anyway, any other thought will be appreciated. I shall take the van for a check up on Monday but I doubt if the mechanics would be of any help.

Had the same problem with 1999 Quest - turns out that the distributor was going until it finally died. It stuttered andf kept shutting off when driven about 20 miles or so. Would start normally when cooled and off again when hot. But yours could be a different problem; not sure.

My car is sputtering and dying. If I try to restart it, it will immediately go into sputtering/dying mode. If I wait a while an hour or so it will start up and drive fine.

When was the last time that the carburetor was stripped and cleaned? Also have you checked the fuel filter? Finally, the problem seems to come and go as the engine is run (and it gets hot) check that the fuel line and any electrical cables are well away from the hot engine as far as is possible.

When im driving my truck,it starts to sputter and

I would try spark plugs and wires. If it was a fuel line you would see the leak or atleast smell it very strongly. If the problem still exists after new plugs and wires try the distributor cap.

I have a 95 firebird formula LT1 that will sputter and want to die. This will only happen if I drive for about 30 minutes then stop and shut off the car for 15 minutes. Once I start it after that it bogs...

map censor... manafold absolute pressure censor.. the mecanics have a hard time finding this censor it is secondary to the motor circuts but it will cause the motor to die then restart in a short time...$30.00 autozone

Engine dies for no apparent reason after several hours running

Sonds like a sensor putting out an error code to shut it down ( like a fatal error code) Prolonged vibrations and heat can make cam sensors, maf, o2 senosr do craz ythings which will actuate a govener and stall your car...could also be you fuel pump causually telling you that "hey im bout to die".I dealership can run a stress test (if you will) to check the longivity of the pump...
Good luck hope this helps :)
