Question about 1988 Jeep Cherokee

I have 1987 jeep Grand cherokee limited edition, sometimes while driving it dies, using the air conditioning or playing the radio only attributes to this problem, this car's battery has been replaced, is fresh, but the problem persists

Sometimes it's not a bad alternator as much as a bad ground to the alternator. If you drive it to the parts store and they test it in your jeep, be sure to have them bench test it after you remove it to be sure that's actually the problem. Those in vehicle testers aren't always the most accurate.

When the jeep dies, do you have to jump start it? If the new battery is being drained, the alternator must not be charging properly and should be replaced. Countrycurt0

Radio is on but there is no sound with a feint odor


check the factory amp under the back seat those are kown to go out

Everything has stopped working in my 1993 jeep grand cherokee limited edition. the door locks do not work. my compass/temp gauge has stopped working. the signal lights no longer work. my heat/and air no...


does the car start? if it doesnt...then your battery is dead. see if it"ll jump start at least for awhile, if it does and dies again...your alternator could be bad and not charging the battery.

sounds like the clutch field on or bearing on the front of the compressor went bad take a closer look at the pulley on the comp. and see if there is any debris or melted plastic coming out behind the pulley,if so the clutch,field and bearing should be replaced,hope this helps

i recommend cleaning the throttle plates. they are located unter the intake hose form the engine to the air filter housing. if you open them with the engine not runniong you will see they will be covered in carbon. use a good carb cleaner and a rag to wipe them clean
