Question about Ford Taurus
The blending door might be stuck open. Did you check both hoses coming into the heater core to assess if the both are the same temp? ? Did you check the thermostat? Please remember just because the thermostat is open doors not mean it is working properly. Boil some water place it in a clear jar and place thermostat in the hot water the unit should open. Let it cool and observe the unit the opening should be closed, if not that can be one of the problems. Good luck.

First check your anti freeze level. If the anti-freeze is low it will not blow warm air. Fill it up and try the heat again. Next check spot is the thermostat. Most associate over heating with the thermostat but a thermostat stuck open will over circulate the antifreeze and it will not properly heat and will cause cold air to blow. Look at your cars temperature gauge. Does it stay unusually cool even after a drive? Pull the thermostat and see if it is stuck open. Last check spot to look would be your heater core. Is your passenger side floorboard wet? Or does your windshield fog when the defrost is turned on? Or does your cabin smell sweet of antifreeze? This is also another indicator of a bad heater core along with no heat. What happens is the antifreeze is rather hot when it circulates through the heater core and the blower blows on the heater core and that is how you stay warm in the cabin. After time they begin to clog and/or crack and no longer circulate hot antifreeze through it. The heater core is behind the dash and this is why the water on the floorboard and the fog and sweet smell. This may need replaced.

Behind the tempearture switch is an arm that is telescopic and raises and lowers the temperature. If this arm is either broken off or loose, it can create an inability to change the temperature. It can also be a problem with the heating unit in the ac in the car.
